This is what a DOJ field rep. told us during our last inspection. I couldn't find on the DOJ web site either.

This thread is a perfect example of why things out here can be so friggin confusing. One would think that asking a simple question like "how much is a DROS fee?" would yield a equally simple answer. But, oh no no no no no.

We have $25.00, $35.00, and number all across the board. One guy thinks he can charge $100.00 on top of the DROS, Maybe he can. Others are clearly in violation.

If you want three different answers to a simple question call DOJ three times.

That's what I keep telling DOJ and ATF. They don't seem to share your same sentiments.

12088.9. (a) The Department of Justice may require each dealer to charge each firearm purchaser or transferee a fee not to exceed one dollar ($1) for each firearm transaction. The fee shall be for the purpose of supporting department program costs related to this act, including the establishment, maintenance, and upgrading of related data base systems and public rosters.

I believe that one dollar fee is actually part of DROS. I will look at my DROS bill tomorrow and let you know. Not it says, "may require each dealer" meaning they are telling you to collect the fee, for them!

There is a $1.00 fee connected to the DROS for firearms testing. This is something different.

We were told by DOJ we could charge a fee not to exceed $1.00 to maintain our DROS system.

Just reading what you posted, I think that is pretty clear that $1 go to the DOJ for maintaining their databases and their public rosters. It makes no mention whatsoever about anything with the dealer. How is the DOJ going to "require" me to charge my customers for my paperwork?

When you said you could call them three times and get three answers, I think that was the best way to sum this up.
