Easy answer? Because the bay area is NOT Northern California but everyone from there says they are nor cal! Sacramento isn't even northern freaking California...

I grew up in Mendocino county. As a kid my dad and I often went shooting, living in a rural community affords many places to do so. When my buddies and I would go shooting we would pile everything in the back of a truck or back seat of a car and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. It was a much more gun friendly place than southern CA. I suppose it trickles down from father to son or whatever. Had I grown up here in OC I doubt I'd have much interest in guns because I wouldn't have had as much access to shooting them.

A friend of mine has told me it's getting more strict and he has seen forest service or whoever make periodic visits to common shooting spots and ranges up north. But despite the hippies there is still an old west attitude in many of the communities north of the bay area.

I had a 10,000 acre ranch to play on, and all my free time was spent there from about 10-18 years old. We also still had gun racks in trucks in 1987 at the high school. Almost all the trucks had gun racks at the high school. How many trucks had gun racks back then where you are from? And i can drive 20 minutes and be hunting, things like that make a difference.

What?!?!?!?!? Are you kidding me??! You need to spend more time in NorCal, I can't believe this. There is a tremendous difference in the people, especially the attitude of the people. I'm from the bay area, but i'm visiting socal to go to school then I'm headed right back.

More Norcal vs Socal?

Population wise there are far more people in Socal than Norcal.

The bay area has been a hotbed for gun rights fights especially since the Stockton shootings back in 1989.

I expect that with the sheriff races in Orange and San Diego counties that a side effect will be increased membership of the Calguns forum.

Right now the Calguns forum is the one forum statewide where people can network on across the board gun issues.

I don't see us as northern or southern Californians, I see us in these together, as such, we need to work together.

Maybe there are more people in Norcal on the board, but you guys down in Socal are more than welcome to join.
