    .40 and 12ga home defense

    Hello,
I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find really good home defense ammo for my .40 and 12ga. Something kinda like frangible but stops on impact period not something harder than the bullet. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appriciated. Thanks,
    -Gator

Glaser Safety Slugs for your .40 maybe?

Box O' truth will tell you all you need to know about 12 gauge though. Just be prepared to deal with overpenetration and don't miss!

Glaser seems to be a less heavy bullet at 115gr thats good I guess I will have to buy a bunch of differt types and hope one doesent make it through drywall or wood. Thanks. Hope I get some more help on this one....

Reduced recoil 9 pellet 00 buckshot is what you should be using for home defense. Somewhat lower chance of overpenetration, but much quicker follow up shots.

Try federal premium hydra-shok for the .40 and bird shot in 7.5 in a 2 3/4 for the 12 gauge. Anything more might result in over penetration.

My opinion, being a scientist and makeing my own evaluation, aka what is in my gun.

Birdshot is for birds, not people.

I run Federal #4 buck as my balance between over penetration and lethality. If you don't like that Hornaday TAP blue shell. Lowere recoil and best patterning of anything I have shot, (which as been a lot).

              +1 for box 'o truth.

I wonder if they make franigble buckshot? I know buck shot is my best bet or a slug since the patterns are tight but depending on distance it my go through the target and through a wall and thats where I worry. I love that I have a lot of handgun loads to try out but a shotguns knock down power is great and thats what I would use. Thanks,

useless for home defense. 00 buck is very effective for HD. General rule of thumb if it can go through drywall it is not going to be effective on a person.

I run #1 buck in 12 gauge for HD currently and highly recommend it.

Ok I bought some hollow points that are low grain and are frangiable for the .40 since nobody wants to sale glasser ammo at a reasonable price. I am going with buck shot for home defnese but I will stick with 2 3/4 and not go 3 1/2. I think this works and I now need an area to test it all out I will try and post some pictures when test are done. Thanks for all the help and any other insites will be greatly appriciated.

Go #4 or larger on the shot loads. Bird shot is for birds. I saw a guy survive a load of #7 1/2 in the torso from a few feet away on that new Steven Segal Lawman show.

Why test it when the "Box of truth" already has. A highly respected guy with a well documented way of testing ammo.
Google his site, you will love it.

Know what he says? Birdshot is for birds, 00 Buck is for killing bad guys.
                              I keep 00 buck in my 12.
I also have a 20 Ga for my wife, the 12 has a little too much kick, and have it loaded with buck as well.
I want to make sure that every shoot counts.
