I must've been wasted when I went to Mall Ninja Univ. My current fave BLM civilian belt-rig sports a forward-canted leather speed-draw for the Glock with 3 four-pack mag holders and the drop leg is not a holster but a collection of molle pouches for rifle mags or boxes of 12-ga shells. I like having my pistol as close to my center mass as possible.

I have a Safariland thigh holster and love it wish I could use it in IDPA.

I tried both - for me the thigh rig was easily the way to go. You should do the same and see what works for you physically with the gear you intend to use in a fight.

I have no issue at all being called a mall ninja - as long as I'm the one still breathing when SHTF.

          I agree, bro.

I already have a thigh rig and tac vest. It works for me.......I just get some odd looks when I've got the whole package on...my old combat boots, black BDUs, tac vest, thigh rig, and my black boonie cap.

Yes, I am a mall ninja sensei.

As someone else mentioned it's a matter of necessity if you're wearing armor.

They can be less than ideal if you are...
            - getting in and out of vehicles a lot, because they can get caught on stuff
            - walking long distances, or running, because of the extra weight moving back and forth on your leg

But do whatever works for you, and train with what you use.

i have a family relative who's an LE with a local dept.

one day i met him for lunch and surprised to see he's using a tight holster. he tells me it's better for him getting in and out of the car.

I'm a mall ninja. I bought a thigh rig strictly for the looks.

I have drop legs set up, its a practicality. Real estate on my belt is used up, so I drop my backup on my right and my blowout on my left, and I keep my primary mags high and on the belt instead of on a drop leg.

Good thread. I've been thinking about what kind of holster to get for my Glock to use as a boar hunting sidearm. As I read the regs the whole concelaed carry thing isn't an issue WHILE hunting. I feel that a thigh rig would allow better access wearing a jacket. I haven't taken a class yet but plan on doing front sight soon. Some of the classes I've seen make comments about thigh rigs not recomended. Training how you shoot makes sense, but until this state becomes shall issue kind of a moot point. I carry when I hunt, train, and keep one handy at home. That all. If I walked around the house packing heat the wife would S#!t a brick.

                      +1

I use a thigh rig when backpacking with a handgun.

If your poor like me, you can rig up a "thigh rig" with some 550 and a cheap nylon belt holster w/retention.

i run belt holsters, in preparation for the day jay lasuer becomes my sheriff, and i can get my ccw. more practical for me. but im an optimist, i guess, and just shove the handgun in my back pocket around the house or on private property, so right rear quarter panel is where im used to having a large, uncomfortable lump of steel anyways.
the best use for a thigh rig, imho, is to tie a length of rope/twine to the belt loop, run it under your mattress, and tie it to one of those "handles" for carrying/moving that most mattresses have. it hangs between the wall and the bed, at the perfect height to snatch it out, and you dont have an uncomfortable lump under your pillow.
