    Sights for my dad

So when I took my Dad shooting the other day, he was having a lot of trouble acquiring the red dot sight on his 10/22. Seeing as how he is 64, I would really like to get him a decent set of optics for his 10/22 and even his MKIII.

What are my options for decently priced and usable optics for these guns? He is an infrequent shooter but I still want him to enjoy popping his soda cans at 50yds

Simmons has their .22 Mag series of rimfire riflescopes in 4X and 3X9. Wal Mart used to carry them and may still.

I am over 60 and have poor eye sight. I shoot red dots with my driving glasses on not my straight safety glasses or reading glasses. It makes the dot clean and the smallest it can be. Helps see the dot and the target clearly. Does he wear glasses? Are they for reading or distance or does he have both issues? I like an open designed red dot not the tube you look thru and using both eyes works best for me.
Rifle scopes with adjustable AO work well at stationary targets not so well at plinking targets that vary in distance. A red dot on a pistol is hard for me to hold I do better with irons. I use a scoped pistol for 50 to 75 yard plinking and it works well. The eye relief is forgiving and the focus is good at these distances. I don't need a AO on the pistol.
I agree about the Simmons being a good value. I have several and they work fine. Get the AO model for dad so he can suit it to his vision.

Need more info. WHY was he having trouble aquiring the red dot? Are his eyes just going bad? Does he wear/need corrective lenses? No point getting an optic if he can't see through it.

For example, my uncle (who got me into shooting) normally shoots a rifle right handed. His vision has gone bad recently. The last time he tried shooting my AR w/ EOTech he couldn't see the sight at all. I suggested he switch to shooting left handed and he could now see the sight clearly. I told him "You are now left eye dominant and need to learn to shoot lefty, or give your rifles to me!"

So, first we need to diagnose exactly what the problem is. Then we can fix it.
