ca legal AR15 configurations

Im new to the Ar15 scene and want to build one from the ground up but I need to know a little about how i can set this rifle up and still be legal in ca. What are some diffrent configurations that i can make with it and what makes it legal. The Ca centerfire, semi auto ID flowchart is very confusing!!!!!!!!!! Please help...

Short answer: if you have features, Fixed mag with <10 rds
Featurless is ok.
