Winchester Model 54, Who has one?

I have a Model 54 built in 1929 with a stainless barrel. Does any one else have one of these beauties? I have never heard of another with a stainless barrel. Just nice craftsman ship in my opinion

Very nice. I've never shot one of those, but I love me a Model 70.

      It's probably been rebarreled.
I have never heard of an original pre-64 winchester of ANY model with a stainless barrel.

          Well I'll be damned...

3/4 of the way down this page:

Stainless steel barrels were an option at extra cost. These stainless barrels were provided with a strange black finish that resembles a high quality paint, being entirely different than the finish presented on the later Model 70 stainless barrels.

Stainless barrel was a factory option. I believe they were coated with some sort of dark finish, but don't take my word for it.

Edit: Randall found something. Does the author say anywhere what the finish is?

I am sure the value to a collector has diminished on my rifle. it already had the rear of the receiver 1 hole tapped and drilled. AND the black barrel coating was removed. So I did what I thought was appropriate and put the best scope I could afford on it. not the best scope, but what I could afford and got a low profile safety from Jack First. and I shoot it when I can, maybe have put 100ish rounds though it. I do still have the hmmm what was it pacific? peep site somewhere

My google-fu is not up to par with Randall tonight, but I did find a page indicating the early stainless Winchesters were sandblasted, iron plated and then blued.

I have a Winchester Model 70, .30-06 and was made in the 60's or somewhere around there, I can't remember right off the top of my head.

How do you measure the pull, i think called the lop? to see if the stock was cut down?

would there be any value in getting a records request or some letter from winchester regarding anything? assuming the cost was $250ish or is this just a $500-750 rifle? if that?
