    big fud at big 5

I was at big 5 on thursday buying my brother his fishing license and the ol lady some ugh's for x-mas and naturally had to go to the gun counter. Just to window shop and look at a couple of pocket knives. To my surprise they had colt .22 ar's. The guy next to me asked to see one and looked in shock seeing this rifle and asked the gentlemen behind the counter that he thought ar's were a.w's. the salesman said that this rifle should not be sold and it is a grey area. also that his 2 best friends are sheriff's here and that they told him they don't care about the legality and they will confiscate anyway and let the court sort it out. Also that most will not try to get it back because of the hassle you have to go through. Then said go ahead and buy it but if you get caught with it, it will be taken. Needless to say the guy said no thanks and high tailed it out of there. It was 599.00 anyways. One thing I was thinking is 1 .....why have this guy behind the firearm sales counter and 2 didnt sac pd put out that memo about legal o.l.l's? I think it was a sac pd memo not sheriff's dept. can't remember, but shared info or policy, right?...........3.....do you think their attitude is let the courts sort it out?

Did you tell the store manager?

If not, you still can tomorrow.

First of all, Sac PD's memo on OLLs has nothing to do with these rifles! Rimfire rifles always have been exempt for Ca AW laws. There is absolutly nothing grey about it. It's clearly exempt for the AW laws. Both the salesman and his LEO buddies (if they really exist) are full of crap.

the funny thing was, it was the store manager. I know because I went to buy my wife's ugh's first and they didn't have her size, so the sales person had me talk to the manager because he knew when the next trailer will be arriving with the correct size and could check the sku number for the correct size at all big 5's. He gave me fud when he said they were out everywhere and I drove to Davis and they had stacks of them. I know could of, would of, should of, but I wish I would of told the potential buyer about calguns or had a card with the website

This is why we need the Calguns.net business cards. You could have handed one to the customer and one to the guys behind the counter and said something like "This site is the leader in interpreting California gun laws and advocating for Californians gun rights if you want to educate yourself on the laws." an d then just left it up to them.

The thread for the business cards is here. Looks like it will be happening soon.

So are you going to open your mouth the store manager or the corporate office at Big 5... Maybe they can send the SAC P memo to a inter office memo to crush said fud... So are you calling?

BELOW is the place that will fix it all!!

your right, to be honest I didn't even think about rimfire. A totally different animal. I guess I was excited I didn't have to buy the bay enhancement stamp for my brothers license. (saved 12 bucks) I guess the state isn't making us buy them this year, although I heard they make it up in the 3 day license.

Hey, when you're complete wrong why let a little thing like actual fact stand in your way.

Look, I applaud Big 5 for being the last hold out sporting good chain in So Cal to stock firearms (at least that I know of). And even some decent ones. But these guys have 0 training and are largely not even gun owners themselves.

Last time I was there a guy, 1st time gun buyer, who came in to buy a Mossberg for HD since his neighbor had just been robbed... he asked how many rounds he needed to buy. The sales guys response: 10.

However, I've found about 50%+ are grateful when you know the right info so my suggestion is that you, respectfully, pull him aside next time you are there and educate him. Worse thing he can do is kick you out and keep being wrong. Which is the status quo. GL

Those are in this thread. Bottom of the first post. The direct line for CGF goes directly to Gene. The whole thread is a good read, all the heavy hitters chime in.

remember Calguns.net and The Calguns Foundation are two separate entities.

i posted this comment on another site but i'll put it here too. my brother went to big 5 in the bay area to check out their so-called firearms section. he asked the clerk if they sell magazines for a springfield m1a. the clerk said that he needs to go to border's or barnes and noble because they don't sell books or magazines about guns.

That's not half as bad as me asking an ATI employee about GSG5 mags, at SHOT '07. She told me that they did not have any magazines but, I was welcome to take a brochure.
