What makes a FN SCAR costs up to twice as much as a Sig 556

Is it the raw materials, the man power needed, the manufacturing process, supply and demand. Im rackin my brain as to why this Rifle costs so much more than the most fancy of AR's Or Sig 556 range of rifles.

This rifle has been out now for several years and is obtainable in California were it might go for a premium compared to other states, that dont require it to be made California compliant.

Though giving it a bullet button should not drive the price to far up.

So just what is it about this rifle that justifies it to be priced so high above its related rifle designs.

Its still polymers and metals at the end of the day.

I fear at the present market rate for one of these rifles i will never get around to owning one.

If Sig and other brands can build a similar rifle for half as much, FN should have something under there hats when it comes to this rifle, what could that be.

Its metals are infused with the tears of a thousand orphans, who happen to run a Cute Puppy store. The rifle was sighted in at the factory by a descendant of Mother Theresa while he wore a piece of the True Cross on a necklace. Lubricated with the spit of Chuck Norris(Currently known as Hoppes ∞) and chrome lined with the grills of fallen rappers.

All this, plus I think it is in a video game.

I'd say that it is because of R&D, and Tooling.

The Sig556 is the rehash of the decades old design with some slight aesthetic updates. Therefore the Sig556 is cheaper since so much of the tooling and technical package has existed.
The SCAR is so new having undergone so much development and redesign that it has to be priced to be profitable to recoup the costs.

            1. fn
            2. monolithic upper
            3. sf gun
            5. quick change barrel

I'd wait for the 308 version. I wonder if it will be at the 2010 show.
2024 New Year?s resolution will be no posting..

I can understand to some degree that design and development will play a part for this heavy price, however once you have the tooling complete and your up and running the manufacturing of this rifle on a large volume, that should bring the price down to a reasonable amount, somewhat in line with its competitors. Well thats at least what you would think, after all its just a rifle we are not talking about building complexed rockets or surgical equipment.

Perhaps its that damned expensive pigment they use in creating that desert earth color, hell ill take one in Black if they bring the price down.

Primarily it is demand far outweighing the supply.

That is is a SPECIAL FORCES OMFG!!!1!one!! rifle doesn't help the supply/demand equation. Neither does its advertisement in games and such.

Well they are two different designs.....one is old.....

Old one is tried and true......HEAVY.....works...

New one gotta pay for some development costs.....LIGHT....works...

I've put a lot off rounds down both rifles.....likem both...

SCAR is very light and handy.....I don't like the RECIP...CHARGING HANDLE...

Whichever one you plunk your hard earned cash....you won't be disapointed....

SCAR prices should come down sum as more rifles are produced and you don't have too buy FN packages to get them....

SCAR Heavy and HK rifles will high at the start as most new guns always are....

Right now BLACK SCARs are limited to 500 so those will be expensive for the time being....

                      It's a better weapon.

I've been in the **** with an FN made M249 and I wouldn't trust the life of my squad to a weapon made by Sig. Not that Sigs aren't fine weapons, FN has a reputation and many weapons int he field to prove it.

This, but the magazine well, controls and stock has been changed.

The SIG-550 used an AK style magazine release and well.

                            SIG-55* series:

                            SIG-556:

From what I have heard from Canadians, the 556 is of much worse quality than the real Swiss SIG-550s (they can get the real thing, no import law, semi auto though).

I think the 550 looks nicer. I've read about a lot of quality issues with the 556. Considering it costs $1,300 or so, I would not want to spend the money on it. Give me a real 550 at $1,100 or so, and I'd sell my AR-15 to try one out.

The SCAR will be cheaper in a few years. Everything costs more when it comes out. I am sure they will go for $1,400 or so like their other rifles when the demand goes down and production goes up.

Its been in 100s of games before that crap was even in development.

And plenty of games used the SIG-550/1/2... such as CS back in 1999.
