    legality of concealing Rifle

Is it legal to conceal a bolt action rifle? I have been told by NF rangers that I must have my rifle unloaded, bolt out and cased if I am transporting along the Pacific Crest Trail. However, to avoid scaring the hoplophobic I want to use a takedown model and insert it into my backpack. Is it legal to have a long gun in this status concealed in this manner and can it be transported through incorporated areas this way?

    YES

Rifles are "non-concealable" firearms per california law. Thus you can hide it any way possible.

And screw the sheeple, just sling it over your shoulder and go for it, unloaded of course.

*I really like that idea* but some areas will be through the State Parks if they even see a rifle there you would have LE all over you. Thanks for the info xx

The Ranger is wrong. You can sling it across your pack, fully operational, there is no "break it down" law. Just be aware of your immediate location, for having it loaded or not. Where discharge is not allowed, it must be unloaded. Also unloaded in incorporated areas. You can keep it loaded in your campsite.Sling it and be happy.

The federal, not state, school zone law says you have to lock it up within 1000'.

Until February next year, all guns must be unloaded, cased and locked in Fed/state parks and rec/refuge areas.

Go hiking next spring, and you'll be OK to carry.
