Any one know of an appraiser around my area (Fresno)? I tried a couple of the shops, one said sure bring 'em in, but i don't really want to haul 50+ guns into a shop. The other shop does appraisals but can't do it for several weeks.

Buy a current blue book of gun values. Unless you need infoon some obscure guns or need a written appraisalfor somelegalreason that bookshould help you a lot though the book of course is not foolproof nordoesit take accout of regional differences.
Heck if I was is in your area I'd do it foryou for free or very cheap! Some gun stores will do itfor you but it can be pricey or they will low ball you because they want to buy them fromyou..22short .22lr .22mag .25acp .32acp .32H&Rmag,.35rem .30carbine

Descriptions and pictures wouldn't hurt. Make and models also would be a good start.Comment

I second the blue book rec. Remember that any handgun not on the CA approved list will draw a premium for FTF sales. Anything especially nice, rare, or valuable should be taken to a professional; and I would only deal with a professional who either charged me for their time (they make money doing appraisals, not by buying and selling guns) or worked for an auction house (where they take a straight cut and have little incentive to under or overestimate the value.)Comment

That's the problem. Some of my wheelguns aren't on the list. And prices vary from area to area.Originally posted by guimus. Remember that any handgun not on the CA approved list will draw a premium for FTF sales.
I have no problem paying for an appraisel. The one shop that does the appraisels would only charge about $60 to come and do it, and he's always been honest as to the value of a gun, but he can't get to it for several weeks.Originally posted by guimus...and I would only deal with a professional who either charged me for their time (they make money doing appraisals, not by buying and selling guns)...Comment

It's difficult to find an appraiser with enough accurate knowledge to give you an honest appraisal unless he's opening the BLUE BOOK, then you don't really need him. Don't trust the ones that make an appraisal and an offer to buy
The BLUE BOOK is a decent place to start although there are regional differences in price and demand.Comment

I took a bunch in to two different shops Saturday. Boy was that an eye opener. The first guy went strictly by blue book value. The other shop went by actual market value (what he would sell them for in his shop or what they would sell for at a gun show). There was between $65 to $129 difference between blue book and market value on all the guns.Comment
