    Firearms wisdom.

I notice a lot of posters here have great signatures that are quotes by famous people or other bits of wisdom. I have used some of those gems to defend against anti-gun arguments with others. It shuts them up pretty quick. So I was wanting to put them all in one place so I could reference them quickly in the future. I just began the list and was hoping everyone here could add theirs as well. There's so many good ones out there that I can't remember anymore. Please add at will. Here's what I have so far:

    1. Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your soul; the other for your freedom. - George Patton

    2. America was founded by men who understood that the threat of domestic tyranny is as great as any threat from abroad. If we want to be worthy of their legacy, we must resist the rush toward ever-increasing state control of our society. Otherwise, our own government will become a greater threat to our freedoms than any foreign terrorist. - Ron Paul

    3. When the people fear their government there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. - Thomas Jefferson

    4. Gun control defined: The theory that people who are willing to ignore laws against rape, torture, kidnapping, theft, and murder will obey a law which prohibits them from owning a firearm.

    5. "I do believe that, where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence. Thus when my eldest son asked me what he should have done, had he been present when I was almost fatally assaulted in 1908, whether he should have run away and seen me killed or whether he should have used his physical force which he could and wanted to use, and defended me, I told him that it was his duty to defend me even by using violence." - Mahatma Ghandi

    6. "If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” - Dalai Lama

    7. "Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest." - Mahatma Mohandas K. Gandhi

    8. "Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." - George Orwell

    9. “Gun control has not worked in D.C. The only people who have guns are criminals. We have the strictest gun laws in the nation and one of the highest murder rates. It's quicker to pull your Smith and Wesson than to dial 911 if you're being robbed.” - Lieutenant Lowell Duckett, President of the Black Police Caucus, Special Assistant to the Washington, D.C. Police Chief

    10. He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. - Luke 22:36

    11. "We should not blame a gun itself for any crime or any acts of violence, any more than we can blame a pen for misspelling a word." - Senator Bennett (UT)

    12. "Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth." - George Washington

    13. “Quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est.” - Lucius Annaeus - “A sword never kills anybody; it's a tool in the killer's hand.”

"Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

Someone has done one of these threads before. If you are able to find it I think there were well over a hundred of them by the time it was over.

Doh! Thanks for the heads-up. Please ignore my original post. I should have done a search first. Although I'm not sure how to phrase the search.

        I found it using "quotes".

OK, I read that thread and it was just quotable quotes. It had nothing to do with firearms. I wanted this thread to be firearms specific.

Sometimes I feel that saying nothing is better than trying to educate or sway a true Anti-gun person to see both sides. While some general knowledge and information can sometimes be helpful, going down a list of quotes, opinions, laws, or even good old truth and fact is not always going to change the mindset of the truely ignorant. My findings are that a "true Anti" will never change and debate is a lost cause with them (unless you enjoy that type of interaction). Face it, guns and 2A related freedoms are very unpopular with many people. Using some of your examples as noted in your OP in a "forced fed" confrontation is only going to create more barriers and hate.

Attempting to "convert" an Anti can actually do more harm (in my opinion) than just letting them have their opinions too. Afterall, I do not like religious types trying to tell me that their religious beliefs are better than mine and that I need to think like them. The same applies to any type of political discussions, depending on which side of "the middle" you lean towards, your listening and reasoning ability may vary. These of course are only my opinions, you do as you feel necessary.

Thanks Quiet. I've read yours before and couldn't find it again. It's now on the list.

Good ones! They've been added. I've seen a couple others from Orwell that I need to find again.

                        From Kid Stanislaus's thread:

"Criminals are not motivated by guns. They are motivated by opportunity. Attempts to reduce public access to firearms provide criminals more points of opportunity." - Guy Smith (Gun Facts 5.1)

That's a good one, but it's by Guy Smith. Most people don't know who he is. I didn't know who he was until that post. That in itself won't influence someone on the fence. When informed about who he is, they will consider his overt bias. Ideally, I wanted quotes from famous people throughout history that are considered unbiased, or whose opinion is widely respected. Better yet are quotes from people you would think represent the other side of the fence.

But I may add it later anyway. Thanks. Keep them coming.

True, some kinds of Stupid can't be fixed, especially the willful ignorance cowardly fantasy land morons that think violence will never touch them, especially if they are disarmed. I think they all have their come-uppin' surprise-surprise-surprise in the near future. It's possible to take a kind of approach that works from their perspective (socratic method) but I know that some people have enough stubborn willful pride worth them deserving a coward's trip to hell a thousand times.
