You could probably get away with open carrying an AK pistol in "gold star" open carry states, like AZ.
People open carry AR pistols in AZ, so an AK pistol would be no big deal.
However, in CA, it'll draw extra attention from LEOs.
Side note:
My NV CCW instructor said he would let me qualify with my AK pistol and add it to my NV CCW permit.
