Special carry for the rich? New theory/speculation/FUD/etc...

There is a story developing that seems both scary and absurd at the same time. There appears to be a bit of evidence but most of it is apparently not true. Here's the link, let me know what you think:

    http://www.boingboing.net/2009/12/12...ans-banke.html (more links inside)

"...an anonymous tipster writes in with word of a secretive, undocumented parallel handgun permitting system available to the wealthy. Essentially, a would-be gunslinger just pays a small-town sheriff somewhere in the USA to make him a "reserve" or "honorary" officer. Now he is entitled to carry all through the USA, without being subject to normal regulations, even as they pertain to ammo, or even carrying guns onto commercial, scheduled airplanes."

    Is such a thing possible?

Thanks. Someone in the comments at BB posted this:

"As a law enforcement officer I can tell you that an individual police agency, city, county, etc. is free to determine who meet the criteria for a reserve or "special" officer. Once an ID is issued, other state or local agencies will accept that ID as meaning the bearer meets the minimum criteria (whether they actually do or not) and allow them to carry a firearm concealed. This includes retired officers and also includes officers flying on commercial aircraft. The federal government does not police these credentials...it is the individual agencies responsibility to determine if the individual officer meets the minimum criteria as a "law enforcement officer" or not."

75 pages, darn. I got some reading to do!

So that's how they're going to spin it. I was wondering about that.

Guess what, the wealthy and powerful get privileges that regular people do not.

If this is news to you, you need to start reading more books and newspapers.

I am aware that this does happen, how much I have no idea. I heard a story about some clown who was on some sort of transit agency PD and got all the perks that came with the badge, when really he was just a douchebag with money and knew people.

The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.
