Midway USA and the 2A

I would have thought Midway USA would have a decent grasp of the laws. I saw a sale on some YHM Lowers and was trying to purchase them for a customer only to receive this message from customer service:

Dear <customer>,

Thanks for your email! Unfortunately we are not selling any serialized products to CA regardless of FFL status. I am sorry about the inconvenience.

Their grasp of the laws is that they don't want to be bothered with shipping serialized items to CA.

Would it make any difference if they said we don't ship to people with green eyes, or size 12 feet?

So what? Find a dealer that does ship to CA.

My statement was more of 1 of disbelief. A larger company that is known for donating heavily to the 2A movement with the NRA it surprised me they had the blanket policy of ALL serialized items. I wouldn't have been as surprised if it was only what they considered "assault weapons" or some ambiguity. But the blanket policy is what surprised me.

I do work with other distributors that ship to CA. However, this particular item was only available at MidwayUSA at this price. So it doesn't help my customer for me to find it more expensive somewhere else.

And yes, if they said they don't ship to people with green eyes or size 12 feet it would make a HUGE difference...since I don't have green eyes or size 12 feet I would have been able to get the item for my customer.

You think they contribute to NRA because they believe in the cause? One, it's PR, and two, it's a way of protecting their markets in the other states. Same reason bigger companies donate to CGF (cough, Larue), PR.

They probably calculated that the amount of time and red tape involved to shipping some items to CA wasn't worth it.

Hell, when I sell stuff on eBay, I now refuse to ship outside the US because of the hassle it requires in calculating shipping and filling out customs forms, not to mention disgruntled buyers who then complain about the slow shipping from their domestic postal service and the customs fees they might end up paying, none of which I can control.

So it's not so much a 2A issue, but a business one.

I'd much more believe this was the case if the red tape involved was more then them having to include a CA DOJ CFLC Number which takes about 5 minutes per shipment at most to include. They don't even have to print it out. They just need to include the number on their packing slip / invoice in the box. It could even be hand written. Nevertheless, whether it is a 2A issue or just a plain business issue, I found it quite annoying.

Yea, actually their probably anti Californian, land of Hollyweird and homo's. I just don't buy into the fact that it is unprofitable to ship these things to California because for the simple fact that you could just stamp on a simple surcharge related to the extra hassle. Part of it is misunderstanding of the laws but I think their is allot of ant Cali sentiment out there.

I've seen it with my own 2 eyes many times.

I say screw em, you won't get my business even for ammo, your loss and someone elses gain.

havent orderd from them in a long time. usually just use them as a reference for parts and pricing.
