What are the REAL disadvantages of putting a carbine length rail on a mid length upper. I am having a mid length upper built and I bought a carbine length rail on accident to put on it. I really like the rail, should I put a new mid rail on it that the builder said that he would swap it out for another brand or should I tell him to put the carbine length on it ?

Gas tube would be partially exposed. Not sure if there would be any problems aside from the aesthetic ones -
Depends on how you use it. I find a 9" rail system just barely long enough to allow me to lay things out the way I like on my carbine. I would probably like a 10" rail more.NRA Benefactor Life Member
