I really, REALLY want to buy a new gun, but can't find anything!

Months ago I sold off several guns that I truly had no use for. I actually saved the money, and din't spend a dime of it. I built up a mini war chest that I PROMISED myself I would use only for guns - and OR a reloading set up. I've managed to hold myself to that promise, but can't find anything I really, really want.

I'm resisting the urge to buy the first thing that just slightly interests me, but it is getting harder and harder. Local stores don't have much in stock - Davidson's never has any 1911s, and I'm on the BST forum here several times a day.

HELP - where else can I look?

I mostly wanted to vent. I'm sure the second I say screw it and buy Christmas presents with the money, a 50's era colt, a Springfield TRP, an Ed Brown, etc, etc, etc will show up on the for sale forum.

Thanks for listening to my rant. How do you all get through the dry times where you just can't find a gun you want?

When this happens with my other hobby (coins) i hold myself over by buying books, so I'd be open to recommendations on gun books.

Frankly, I've never had that problem. There is always a gun out there that I want.

I have the opposite problem right now - too many guns on the want list and no $$ to buy any of them.

I can slightly relate in the following situation: I was set on a certain gun to buy. When I had the funds, I went to the store to purchase and saw something else I liked a lot, too. Same price, roughly. I ended up taking a week to decide, and went with my original choice. Luckily, this was before the buying craze, so my two choices didn't disappear during my week of torturous indecision. Seriously, I was having nightmares about which gun to choose. It was ridiculous.

Cabelas has a Hornady Lock and Load Classic reloading kit on sale for $299 right now.

The link is too long to post but just go to their site and type in "Hornady kit" in the search line.

I thought this was a pretty good deal. This kit got good reviews and I was thinking about buying one myself.

Edit: Just found the same kit for sale for $249 at Grady's Great Outdoors: http://www.shopgradys.com/servlet/-s...-N-LOAD/Detail

I have a real hard time keeping myself from buying the next one. My latest is a relatively inexpensive Colt 25 automatic and I'm still waiting out the ten days.

If you haven't read "US Infantry Weapons in Combat" by Mark G. Goodwin, you should. The book has personal experiences from WWII and Korea about ...GUNS, GUNS, and more GUNS.

Have posted in the WTB (want to buy) Forum?

                        What are you looking for?

If you already have a couple favorite guns in the same caliber, then get a Reloader!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

I think at your discretion, it would help if you let us know which guns or which categories you already have or don't have filled. Another way to put it is what categories you'd like to use the guns for, home defense, collectibles, target shooting, SHTF, plinking, cool-factor guns etc. Are you more into pistols, longarms, wheelguns, etc.

I would say, look at your collection and determine what you don't have.

Look at calibers, have you hit all the major ones? In rifle and pistol calibers? If you've got the basics like .22, 9mm, .38sp/.357mag, 40S&W, 44mag, 45ACP then start looking at some of the less common ones like .380ACP, .25ACP, .500Mag, .50AE or .50GI.

How about C&R? There's a real fun rush owning milsurp weapons, especially if they've seen duty. Consider Mosins, SKSs, Tokarevs, Makarovs, Garands and 1911s.

How did you manage that? I had to dump my Taurus 66. I will NEVER buy another one. Shot 50-100 rounds then stopped rotating cylinder.
