    How did you first get started

    This is a survey thing for school that i would appreciated if some members share their own stories.

    1. How did you first come to know about or get interested in guns.

    2. Have your attitudes toword guns change since you have been introduced?

    3. Is there something about this topic that you think no know ones about

    4. What is one thing people should know about guns (something to persuade people)

    5. Is there anything else you can tell me? any information you would like to add?

    1. A cousin of my ex took me shooting with him. He had an old lever .30-06 and a standard Remington shotty. Had a ton of fun, first time ever at the range.

    2. I've learned a lot more about them and now desire many more.

    4. They're fun as hell! Also, don't get hit in the face with flying brass.

      1. Come from a shooting family - Dad was a competitive pistol shooter, uncle was a HP and Trap shooter

      4. Guns are tools - no more danerous that saws, drills or hammers all of which can kill or injure if used improperly or carelessly.

      I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

      As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

        1. I first got interested in guns at 10 years old with my first pellet gun given to me because I asked for it

        2. My attitude has been pro-firearm since a young boy and nothing will change that.

        3. I can't think of anything

        4. People need to put away their preconceived notions of what firearms are and what they "make people do" and actually go to the range and shoot one day. This is the number one thing that anti-gun people should do so that they can understand that its just a machine and not a baby-seeking, armor piercing, cop-killer that is about to cut loose at any moment.

          3. I don't understand the question.

          4. That guns are simply tools, and are effective at putting the weak on even footing with the strong. Guns are neither good nor evil, but users can be. Plus, shooting stuff is fun!

          5. I grew up in a household with unsecured firearms, and it was perfectly fine. My parents taught my brother and I boundaries, and demystified guns for us. If it's an every day thing, it quickly becomes less interesting because it's no big deal.

            1) I started shooting at 6, aunt and uncle took me. Then at summer camp.

            2) No, I believe anybody who is not a felon has the right to protect themselves. Bad guys don't play fair, why do we?

            3) Yes, the anti's like to fabricate stats to justify stealing your rights.

            4) See American History. This nation was formed by men taking arms and telling the crown to go to hell. The firearm is a fundemental part of our history and is what gives us our freedom. Too many forget our past and that is a serious problem IMO. A firearm levels the playing field for the law abiding citizen. A 90lb grandmother can fight a 300lb criminal, and win.

            5) Who are you, and whats your backround with firearms?

              My house was broken into a couple times. Nothing was taken but I was concerned for my then-girlfriend-now-wife's safety if I was working nights.

              Yes, 180 degrees. Having grown up in a semi-liberal Asian household, I had a slightly-negative view of firearms. Didn't understand why anyone would need a gun when the police were supposed to protect me. Didn't even know let alone care about CCW issues. Now, I'm quite politically active to push for positive change in my state.

              Not really.

              Guns aren't about hunting. They're tools of self-defense and the ultimate line of defense against tyranny.

                1. I married a guy who owns firearms, prior to being married I had NO interest in guns and basically never considered the importance of them or the Second Amendment. How I became interested? Little by little, after getting married seeing them on a daily basis. Being around them, hearing my husband talking about them. I joined the NRA a couple of years ago and honestly, can't explain why but during the past month I just wanted my own handgun and now, I have my Glock...
                2. Definitely! I am comfortable with them and see them for what they are-inanimate objects.

                4. There is plenty I would say... guns can't do anything by themselves. A gun is 100% in the control of the person handling it. Guns can do NOTHING by themselves, period. Matches don't light fires, knives don't stab people, cars don't run people over. Likewise, guns don't kill people. Furthermore, take guns out of the equation and there will still be plenty of weapons people will use.
                5. Firearms aren't a luxury. To keep and bear arms is a RIGHT, as is the Right to freely speak, to deny unreasonable search and seizure of property, to not speak, etc... Guns aren't a Right so we can hunt, they are a Right to defend one's person, their family, to ward off an oppressive government. Guns are vital and without the Right to keep and bear arms, it is impossible to demand our other Rights be upheld.

                  Know that this is not a survey that you can take to the bank. In other words it isn't quantifiable. Anyways...

                  4. Humans have been killing other humans since the dawn of time. If it wasn't a handgun, it would be a knife or a sack of doorknobs. Additionally, one could argue that where violent acts occur, this is a micro to the state of nature which would allow for guns in a society that periodically ceases to exist.

                  5. Again this survey data is not quantifiable and would qualify as pseudo research.

                    1. Started shooting 35 years ago with my dad. 22 rifles at the sheriffs shooting range. Think I may have even gotten a merit badge in Boy Scouts for marksmanship.

                    2. Have come to appreciate the history of guns and the history of our right to own them.

                    3. The people that own guns are very nice and friendly.

                    4. They are a good thing to do with your entire family. I often shoot with my wife and my 17 year old daughter.

                    5. Nothing could be more American and patriotic than gun ownership!

                      Here are my answers:

                      1. Most of the adult males in my family were/are avid hunters so I grew up around guns. Got my first 22 rifle between the ages of 3 and 4 and I still own it.

                      2. No change in attitude.

                      3. Gun owners are just like everyone else.

                      4. Owning and using firearms can be intimidating to people that have no experience with them. Any decent gun owner would be happy to teach you what they know about guns and then you can pass that knowledge on to another newbie when you feel comfortable with them.

                      5. The second amendment has nothing to do with hunters owning guns and using them for hunting. It is much more important than that.

                        1. Girl broke up with me, I went skydiving and bought a gun. I was 22 so what did I know?

                        2. Attitude is still the same. Always assume it is loaded. It's a tool and not a toy.
