Is this lawful? How do you find out?

I understand that certain things related to guns can't be sold/sent outside the contintal US.

How do you find out what those things are?

Almost any rifle or handgun parts are restricted for international trade by the ITAR agreement. Americans wishing to export rifle or handgun parts generally need an export license from the State Department to do so.

Bizarrely, shotgun parts exports are not handled by the State Department, but by the Commerce Department, and rules are far more relaxed. We can ship most of our products all over the world with no export licenses, because they are for shotguns, not rifles.

Hey Pingpong. The google search is nice, but who to believe?

Thanks Mitch. Much more understandable. Someone outside the US has asked to buy the AR-15 iron sight we have posted here. I'll take it as a 'no' that I can sell it to them.

Since you are in Orange County, here's something you might like. Enjoy!

          Yo!

Just check on the websites of FedEx and UPS, they list restricted items as well as Customs info.

            I wouldn't do it.

                It's a rifle part.

We applied to the Commerce Dept and they gave us permission to export without a license a number of stocks and other kits that include certain parts made for AR-15s, because the assemblies are designed for shotguns. But we won't export, for example, an AR-15 grip by itself. This irritates some of our Canadian customers.

The sight might be classified somewhere as something other than a rifle part, but that's something Magpul's or Troy's export department would know about. As an ordinary Joe, I wouldn't risk it.

I wrote back to the prospective buyer (Phillipeans) and gave them the identified problems. I'll let them do the legwork if they really want it, and send me the details.

I'm sure they'll look for something local.

                  Not worth the risk.

Thanks for the info. Didn't realize it was that restrictive.

Did you mean the Philippines? I wonder how your buyer can handle this as even the laws of the Philippines regarding guns is very very restrictive. Things we here in the US considers accessories are considered gun parts under Philippine law (handles, rails, grips etc).

Did I do that again? Shame on me for not verifying the spelling. Just when you think you've got it down...

I'll let you know if I hear from them!

Tom, sorry I did'nt catch earlier that it was an AR iron sight. Well most gun parts are available in the Philippines (airsoft or real deal). The only problem is the cost, its way too expensive! your buyer must've just googled for cheap irons. Anyway, as I've said if this is prohibited to shipped under US laws, it is also prohibited to import under Philippine law. I don't think your buyer will contact you again if you've mentioned about the legal issues.

Maybe their research is taking a while....
