Shooting to the left...

So I met 9mmepiphany at a local range tonight (He is an amazing instructor!!!) and we tried out my new Glock G19 (LOVE it). Anyways, my shots all were to the left. Not significantly, but the grouping was all just left of center. Initially, he suggested my gun may be just a tad off but then I remembered but forgot to mention to him that when I shot my husband's 1911 and his AR, same thing. All slightly to the left. I'm also right eye dominant, if that makes any difference (not sure if it does).

edit: that means she is not using her fleshy part of the trigger finger in the first joint. when she pulls trigger, she ends up pushing it to the left.

Ok I get it, at first I was thinking squeeze more firmly. So norcalmama, I'm sure you were at one point taught to squeeze, not pull the trigger since if you weren't you'd probably be shooting right! What apparently could be happening is you need to move the trigger placement closer towards the first joint on your finger. :dunno:

we have to crawl before we run...and she was an excellent student, willing to try things that were different

our session was about safety, stance and grip..handgun accuracy is all about trigger control. when she held the gun and aimed, while i operated the trigger, the group was pretty centered... i gave her homework

I shoot low-left with my Glock 19 as well. A tip I got that has helped is to keep a moderate grip with your right hand (assuming you're right handed) and with your left hand, gripping over your right hand, keep a very tight grip.

Seems to me this keeps your right hand from pulling over left because it has so much resistance to fight against.

Only downside is you may get fatigued more quickly, maintaining the grip.

You should know you trigger better as it should never be a surprise to you when your gun will go off..

Since you asked:

Trigger control problem probably exasperated by having a hangun with a grip possibly too big for your hand and a less than optimal trigger pull. I'd be willing to bet that the pistol doesnt line up properly down your forearm when you have it in a firing grasp. While the shot placement chart posted is helpful, it assumes you have a proper grasp in the first place; if you are wrapping your hand around the grip to reach the trigger on a pistol too big for you recoil will contribute to pushing shots left assuming you're a right handed shooter.

A lot of people, male and female, don't have large enough hands to properly grip most double-stack pistols, although many do well, but not up to their potential, shooting them. Often we buy pistols because we like their style, operation, magazine capacity or notoriety but ignore ergonomics; one size does not fit all in handguns or underwear.

Going back to one of the other comments that hangun accuracy is all about trigger pull... while thats a nice generalization and accurate in this case it means nothing without proper sight sight alignment and front sight focus. I can pull my trigger perfectly but if I'm not focussed on my front sight no telling where my shot will end up; I think front sight focus is harder to teach than trigger pull in many cases.
