I'm a resident of FL and CA my buddy is going to sell me a pistol in the state of FL there is no paper work needed in FL to complete the transfer but now i want to register that pistol to CA what do i need to do?

If you buy it in FL as an FL, from a FL resident, then you are OK federally. As long as FL allows for paperless transfers, you are OK per FL rules.
Then, when you return to CA, you should be able to file a "new resident" registration, http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/ab991frm.pdf , on it. I've heard of this being acceptable, but am not sure. Not sure how CA treats the scenario of people that have dual-residensy.Jack
