    Alright, 22LR for SHTF? Think again...

    Alright, so I have read in the past about guys wanting a 22LR as their SHTF because you can use it to hunt and all the other stuff. The idea sounds great but in reality, it is no reliable!

    Anyways, heres the reason why:

    I went hunting in wisconsin just a few weeks back and it was cooold and wet. I had my 22LR with me and we camped out for 4 days. The first day was fine, the bulk ammo that I had shot great when I was sighting in my rifle. No hickups, no problems..
    On the first day of hunt it was damp, I had wrapped my ammo in a plastic bag to keep water from getting in. At a point and time though I had to unwrap it to get ammo. On the second day of hunt the ammo felt damp but everything seemed to be okay. On the third day though was when all hell broke loose. Some how about 1/3 of my ammo was FTF. It really sucked when you see a squirrel and you got em in your sights...then..click.........stick in another....click.....and by that time the critter took off already. Anyways, on the last day of the hunt about 70 percent of my 22 had gone south. I tried to air dry it as much as I can but nothing worked and I guess once their wet...its too late.

    Lesson to be learned?

    Do NOT use 22LR as a SHTF as a few days of wet weather had proven that the ammo will be nothing better then sling shot ammo.

    This was my experience so if you guys had better luck...good. Just thought I let other folks know about what CAN happen.

    This worked for me on Stingers

              you're right, luckily I have my pointy stick...
              TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
              The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
              Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
              Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
              The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
              The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
              The best lack all conviction, while the worst
              Are full of passionate intensity.

                If you put them into the plastic bag while it was cold out, and kept them on you, the moisture in the bag could have condensed, and caused your problems. I agree with the vacuum sealing. That way, you get most of the moist air out, and dont have to worry about condensation.
