M-16 with closing ejection port cover

In researching a college paper I ran across an article about machine gun history incorporated with the author's narrative of a Knob Hill shoot. This line struck me as interesting. I didn't think there was much of the operation of the M-16 I could have missed in boot camp but apparently the ejection port cover closes by itself

"The only part of the M16 that seemed to move when I pulled the trigger was the ejection port dustcover. It flipped open, spent casings poured out, and then it flipped shut."

Maybe the person writing about that plays too much Counter Strike.

BTW you know that according to CS, in order to load a new magazine you have to retract the bolt forward assist and let it slam forward by itself?

I try to do that at the range now, it makes me look like a pro
