Show them that MIT has a pistol and rifle club

    MIT Intercollegiate Athletics

They even have a shooting range in the middle of the campus, underground to their gym.

I really like the archery angle. Archery is by far more than an air rifle.

Now, you'll also want to use this line during a public debate in front of a lot of people...

Considering the mentality of the people forbidding the air pistols, any comparison to the archery range will probably get the archery range shut down.

Why recreate the wheel when an air rifle and pistol club already exists in San Diego? For decades, air rifle and pistol matches have been held at the San Diego Police Revolver Club on Wednesday nights starting around 6:00 P.M. They set up inside a stone building at the range which is located at 4008 Federal Blvd, San Diego, California 92102 or call the San Diego Police Revolver Club at 619-264-1514

Travel time, not everyone has a car, convenience factor, not a student-oriented gig, no place to practice between matches, prohibitive costs all around, etc.

I dont want a lot of competition thrown at these guys from the beginning, especially if there are women involved, as they tend to shrink away from that pretty quickly. While I *may* be down with shooting there (There *may* be too many cops for my liking, who knows), I don't think that students will find it very convenient. Hell, I haven't even been to the on-campus archery range and I actually OWN a friggin bow, partially because of the time involved, I park off campus and I don't have a storage place for my bow while on campus ort a convenient transport method while walking around.

In addition, I want this activity to happen just like any other activity. It is an Olympic sport and should be treated the same way as water polo, basketball or lacrosse is.

Do any of the the other UC campuses have teams? How about CSUs?

It's difficult to do anything that involves "shooting" at UCs. I wanted to do something along similar lines at UCLA but there was too much red tape to bother.

We have an archery range here so it is just a hop/skip/jump to get the pistol thing going, at least logically. However, logic at this university seems to be running a little thin...

Nate see that is what bothers me if they are finding arrows in that situation then you know they will use that as a reason to not allow airguns. I know there are other colleges that allow what you want to do. You just have to find them and find out how they managed to pull it off.

SJ That is what boggles my mind too. I mean come on its a supervised activity when it comes to ROTC. When they are not using them they are freaking locked away so its not like the students are carrying them around in their backpack. Even more sad is the fact that the kids in the program competed and could earn scholarships for marksmanship. Now that is taken away from them and for some of the kids in that program took their only chance at going to college away. If I thought it would do any good I would see if the "right people" could fight a legal battle for these kids.
