More magnification does not automatically mean you can see the bullet holes.
What you need is higher quality optics.
I can see 22 caliber holes at 100yds through my 7x Leica rangefinder.

I got a cheap Barska 20-60x60mm, suggested by another calgunner. It was about $55 shipped and I can see the .223 bullet hole out to about 200 yards (clearly). That was the best $55 I've ever spent.

I wouldn't waste money on a spotting scope that costs less than a good scope stand. The Konuspot 80 is an 'exception'. If you look hard enough, you can probably find it for $200 (which is about the same price as a good scope stand).

I got the Barska spotting scope at Cabelas for around $80, and saw the same scope for the same price at Big 5. I use it for the same purpose and it suffices. I've certainly seen better optics, but for the price this works.

For the guys saying to get the Barska.... Are you sure?!?!?

Friend and I tried one from Big5, it was horrible. At 100 yards, the images were blurry and had some bad fringing. The optics on our rifles are far superior (and they'd better be, for the prices we paid).

I am currently saving to invest $800-$1000 in a spotting scope.

Do you recommend I stay away from that brand After hearing everyone talk about theirs I was looking at this Barska : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...N81HP&v=glance . If I had the money I would definately invest in a nicer one

I was a bit skeptical at first but it's not bad. I can the holes out to 200 yards clearly.

I'm also not at all intending to use this for long range viewing.. If it can see the holes at 40 and 100 yards it will work.

                              I recommend this:

Walmart in Union City (East Bay) had a Simmons Blazer spotting scope that I bought based on this thread. It does what it's supposed to do and it pretty clear even at distance. The stand kind of sucks, but I use my Manfrotto camera tripod (which cost about 4x as much as the scope!)

You can buy what works for you at Big5 or Walmart. If it doesn't work out, return it, those guys don't care. You're going to have to try a few to figure out what's best for your usage, which is range work and not glassing a hill for game.
I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

Hmm, good question for clarification. Yes, I'd have to agree with the above. Maybe Barska makes some good higher end stuff (I don't know as I have not looked) but anything that costs $60, someting's gotta be up. Otherwise, there would be no need for $200, $500, or $1000 spotting scopes.
