I wont get into law broken etc....

To answer your question, No you do not need to do anything. There is no long gun registration, so when you sell it LEGALLY via PPT or shipping to a FFL, it will just go to the next buyer.
I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

    and

If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck".

If the rifle isn't 50+ years old, in order to sell it, you need to do a PPT at a dealer with so that the new buyer can DROS it.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

This here always confuses me. If a longgun doesnt have to be registered then why are we told to go do a PPT and DROS? Besides checking to see if its stolen and you're not prohibited from owning one, can I sell a gun I own that isn't registered in my name?

            because they said so

But yes, you are required to do a PPT so that CADOJ can confirm that the buyer is not prohibited from owning it.

But what about the seller? Can he sell a firearm that he never registered into his name?

long guns (except AWs and NFA firearms) aren't "registered" in anybody's name.

As for handguns being sold without being inthe seller's name, there is no requirement that a handgun be registered in your name before you can sell it.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

Mostly will happen when people move into State and have a gun they want to sale. Instead of sending in the DoJ form with $19, they can sale the gun within 60 days of becoming a resident, as it will become registered to the new owner via the DROS.

So lets just say I have very good legit buddy and he gives me a great deal on a brand new Glock he hasn't even shot yet. We're both aware of the PPT process but we never get around to it. Can I legally sell the Glock to a prospective buyer on CG? Will the DROS on the PPT fail because I wasn't the registered owner? I read somewhere as long as the gun wasnt stolen and/or used in a crime it shouldnt be a problem. Just clarifying.

Again only going to answer the question and not comment on the "situation".

As long as the gun hasn't been reported stolen there should be no problem. Remember if for any reason the gun gets flagged during the DROS, you are the one in trouble and they have all your info.

At the end of the day all California cares about is that the gun is registered to the current owner.

Now should we replace Glock with XD?

+1... the crime was in purchasing the gun without going through a California FFL (all handguns and long guns newer than 50 years).
Unlike the AW issue, there is no continuing crime, the law was broken the moment the gun and money changed hands... or in the event of a loan, at the point the 30th 24-hour period expired.

There are thousands of handguns in this state owned by people who owned them before California began requiring registration.... registration itself doesn't mean squat. There very well may be more legally unregistered handguns in the state than there are registered... there certainly was for the first 5-10 years after registration began.

The current law is in place not primarily for the background/stolen gun check... that can be done in seconds nowadays... but because California wants to get it registered, and to satisfy the mandatory 10-day waiting period for the purchase of any handgun gun, or long gun newer than 50 years, even PPT/FTF.
