    Incident at Inland (02/03/2007)

If anyone was going to Inland today around 1400 hours and found an ambulance, fire truck, and a couple squad cars, a woman was shooting a pistol and had a bad reload. The round detonated in the pistol and caused injury to her hand.

I didn't witness said event, since I was getting all my gear into the truck and was about to leave. But pretty much, faulty reloads blowing up in the gun caused a shooter bodily injury. From what I was told from another shooter who was next to her, they were store bought reloads from Turners. I cannot confirm nor deny that fact. I didn't want to stick around and spectate, so I don't have concrete details of what caused the detonation, but I'll talk to Brian (rangemaster) tomorrow after I get breakfast in the clubhouse.

Anyway, I just wanted dispel any rumors of someone getting shot, etc.

Update: Rangemaster said it was 9mm Kahr shooting reloads purchased from Turners. Unknown cause of detonation. Could have been a squib; cannot be confirmed.

Lady suffered injuries to the shooting hand. Mainly brusing where the safety blew out into her hand and some cuts.

That is why you should spend the extra for factory when shooting small calibers.

I'm missing the small caliber reference, care to elaborate?

Hope the woman's injuries aren't too bad.

Yeah I heard about this - a woman was shooting a STAG AR set up in a pistol configuration with a full auto DIAS, chambered in 9MM, and after getting extremely frustrated with being limited to 10 round mags, she began mowing down everyone at the firing line (that's because the pistol-grip allowed the gun to spray bullets 8700 rounds per minute).

SWAT, ATF and the FBI arrived and there was a 6 hour stand-off. Janet Reno was on site for consultation and advice. DEA was on hand because it was learned from the suspect's live-in transvestite ex-convict lover that the suspect was a rabid heroin, cocaine, GHB, meth, and organic mescaline addict. Greater urgency mounted when it was learned she had been trafficking in marijuana and feeding it to newborns intravenously in the maternity ward at Cedars-Sinai to get them "hooked on drugs early". Further reports unfolded that she had robbed a Bank of America earlier in the day and was using the marked bills to buy ammo.

However the greatest concern came when officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as local law enforcement, determined that she was using a muzzle brake that resembled a flash-hider and they simply could not risk the safety of the city and innocent public, just in case the alleged muzzle brake proved to be a flash hider. Swift action was necessary.

She kept everyone at bay for a good while, until a Coast Guard sniper had a clear shot and took it, hitting her in the hand, where at that moment, she knew that was the beginning to her quick end, whereby she turned the gun on herself.

          So sad.

Apparently you were the only lucky one, and survived to tell your version of events.

(Actually, kidding aside, I hope she is OK and if related to or a friend of anyone here, she and you have my best wishes and hopes for the best outcome.)

It's not a bad idea to weigh all of your ammo (especially reloads)before you shoot it, the one that weighs extra heavy is probably one you don't want to shoot.

You won't see the difference between 5 grains and 10 grains unless you classified your brass and bullets and primers first. You'll find bullet weights vary 2-3 grains or more depending on brand. Brass weight is all over the place depending on how many times it's been loaded and brand. Same for primers.

There is no way to tell....even with name brand factory ammo. You'll find stories of kabooms with all kinds.

Maybe. My buddy saw one explode at Magnum's. I wouldn't feed a polymer gun any reloads.
