    shooting tin cans/water bottles

I've recently found much enjoyment in making tin cans or water bottles fly 30ft up in the air or explode with a large puff of water.

I want to make these two things happen more often. Does anyone have some experience with this? Should I aim closer to the bottom? use soft-point? I figure I can use carbonated water too, but no explosive

Hit them as close to the bottom as possible. Golf balls are fun too just remember to clean the range up after yourself.

I used to shoot full soda cans at a longer range. It is an instant feedback for the precision rifle.

Make sure you clean the range before you leave, of course.

Go to the 99cent store and get a bunch of shave cream cans, the old white stuff not the gel kind, they go off nice but remember to pic up your cans when done.

Me and some friends refill water bottles with food coloring and water.
First remove the labels, then color and fill.
                Neon color is best.
Pack them up and take them to the desert.
Usualy we take 2 garbage cans full, hundreds of bottles.
We shoot at anywhere from 100 to 350 yards.
They provide hours of fun, we make a competition out of it.
Pick up all the plastic when we're done.
In the 320 yds pic you can see our shooting area and the trucks. It's slightly uphill, and generaly windy from the left.

.223 caliber with hollow point or balistic tip projectiles.
It's lots of work and real heavy, but boy it's a good time.
Always leave the desert cleaner then you found it.

                  Colored water is the shiznit.

I've also noticed you get better results if the bottle isn't completely full. Perhaps allowing the water to expand more assists with the explosive force. Need more analysis on this point, though.

How about 2 litre bottles, but with those special bottle stoppers that allow you to pressurize the bottle to preserve the carbonation?

As long as you don't hit the stopper, it'll provide hours of fun!

I hit a tin can at 300 yards with my 700P pretty easy though except for the wind changing direction a bunch of times while I was shooting that distance.

Remember, when shooting water it's all down to the energy imparted by the projectile. Rifle bullets and shotgun slugs make a wonderful mess. Handguns not so much. All a .22 will do is make holes in the bottle and cause all the water to dribble out.
