Whats the point? All thats letting the theif know is that you have a real one hidden.

If you have the ability to hide your safe then just hide your safe and don't leave a decoy out.

Why not spend what it takes and get a real safe that will keep the BG's out when and if they do find it? If you can get to my house, then find my safe, and then get into it without getting busted by the Police that will come as a result of my alarm system, then you deserve it's contents. That's why I have extra insurance too.

Yes I do have decoy safe. I bought one from walmart for 30 bucks and put like two box of ammo and a couple pounds of rice in it. My real safe is very well hidden. I also have a very good home alarm system too.

I've heard of decoy ducks, but not safes I say keep your real safe well hidden and your decoy safe into a spare safe. Make sure you bolt it down, we don't want to see that ammo and rice at a pawn shop

Decoy safe's are an excellent idea for people that cannot hide their primary safe. If possible, HIDE YOUR SAFE!!!!!!!!!!. I don't mean put it in a closet, move it out of immediate sight, or disguise it at something else. I mean put it in an enclosed secret room or built a secret cabinet. You have to rig it in an obvious location and fill it with contents that make "valuable noise". It should be somewhat heavy (150lbs is decent) and take not more than a few minutes to dislodge. You are, after all, simply using this safe to buy time. If you have an alarm system, don't rig it to delay removal at all as the break in will be snatch and grab.

If your real safe is well hidden then why would you wan't to point out to an intruder or anyone else that you even have guns? My neighbors for 10 years don't know I hunt, shoot, or even have guns and that is the way I intend to keep it. A Decoy safe in plain sight just tells everyone that there may be something worth taking here.

Ahhh I have thought of this a few times and I think its a great idea and 5 minutes later I am like "nah just hide the real one better"...

I do not have mine hidden well enough and worry about it but until then all I can do is hope it is safe (my safe) If they try hard enough (bad people) they can get anything.

I am home 90% of the time and if not they are usually WITH me...

I think we should however be pushing our 2A thoughts on people and yes they will know you own guns... So big deal they may know you have guns but also know your well armed enough to make them think twice not to break in.

Well, that is why you may need a decoy safe then.

I don't "push" any 2A issues on anyone, just like I don't like anyone pushing anything on me (like religion). People are capable of making thier own choices, on thier own. It's information that no one needs to know about me. There are a few things that I feel I don't need to advertise (and guns are one of them). I don't have "Protected by Glock" bumper stickers on my truck either.
