Bay Area non-managed ranges?

Well as much fun at it is shooting at a managed range i also am looking for some outback ranges. I have gone down to Clear Creek BLM land, but that is really far for a few hours of shooting. I just like the idea of more freedom to shoot rapid etc.

When i was in my early 20s we use to shoot up off South Skyline off highway 17. At the end where the road Y's i think you went right and after a while there was a pullout on the left with a jeep trail. Lots of rounds on the ground and it seemed it was used a lot. One time when we were there a Cop drove by and didn't seem to mind that we were shooting. Well he didn't stop and we didn;t seen him when we went back down...

I also have heard about a place by Dinosaur Point/San Luis reservoir going over 152 to Interstate 5, but i have yet to find that one.

Any one know of these or others like this or are they all secret.

in the far north bay (alright, not even close to the bay but in UKIAH) there is North Cow mountain BLM land that has an unmanaged range

Unless it is BLM or NF land it will be private, City/County owned, or at least owned by someone, and now days if you don't have written permission from the land owner your taking a real chance - especially if using an AW.

Years ago I also used to shoot in an old CHP range near the Juvi Hall in Scotts Valley, and also up Bonnie Doon Road a few miles from Hwy 1. Even 20 years ago the police started cracking down on using these informal ranges.
