Why you should join/donate to the NRA

Ok so I have to give a speech in a week for a college class, and it's supposed to be a persuasive speech. So I chose of course to speak about why people should join and donate to the NRA. I've come up with a couple reasons, but I could use some input, so I'd like to hear your opinions on the matter.

    Membership numbers.

Even if you never contribute one dime beyond your membership dues, every "body" counts when an NRA lobbyist walks into a DC person's office and can say "Hi, I'm from the NRA and we represent the interests of 50 million Americans...."
Versus a lobbyist who walks in and can only claim to represent 50,000 people.

I don't have the time or resources to be politically and socially active in very many organizations. The one organization that I have been involved in to a large degree (as a "field grunt") has been the Patriot Guard Riders... but I am a firm believer in spending the $20 or $50 or $100 to join as many organizations as possible that work to promote my ideals.

Most people support the Constitution and will tell you that they do. Then they balk on the 2nd and give you some cockamamie reason why the 2nd is not the most important Amendment in the Constitution.. They will also tell you that the NRA is only supporting the 2nd, so they don't feel the need to support them. I let these people know that the only reason that there is still a Constitution is because of the 2nd. So I tell them that by supporting the NRA they are not just helping to protect the 2nd but all of the Constitution because 2nd it the one amendment that protects all the others.

This statement doesn't make any sense.

It makes sense in that if "they" are successful in taking away our Second Amendment right to gun ownership, there'll be nothing to stop them from taking away our other rights.

I understand the concept is lost on you, but:

Ok I got the part about member numbers. And I'm gonna go on about how the successful lobbyists you hear about in the news all the time, big tobacco, fanny, freddie pay way more to hire lobbyists than almost any other interest group can hope for.

I really hate that term. It is used by the libs and the media to foster an image that "big ####" is too powerful for the average citizen to do anything about and we should rise up and fight them.

The same people pushing that term in the context of successful businesses fail to use the same term in the context of government, and in fact, the context of the comment is always in relation to increasing the size/scope/power of the government.

"Big ####" are what they are because they have provided a product or service that the public is willing to purchase.

I didn't say they were good or bad. I used a term and said they were effective

I know, your context was fine... I was just saying that I hate the use of the term in general. It is an indoctrinating term that has negative social connotations.
People don't generally preface something that they consider to be good with "big".

Nahh... big is fine if it prefaces something good... or even something genuinely bad, like government
