    Which raises the question:
How much should you spend on a "safe"?

That video cracks me up. It's only 500 times easier to bust into a safe when it is flat on the ground with room to work and with maximum leverage.

If a safe is not on the DOJ list it can still have the necessary features to be an approved safe, and you can sign the affidavit:

I would look more into whether it prevents fire or water
          damage...

I thought Sentry give u a new safe when accident occurs like most major brands
Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil

You should check out the Costco in Lakewood.

I just bought the safe they have for sale, it was way bigger for the price, $500.

Someone who's stealing guns like that probably doesn't give a damn about the collectors value of the guns with the boxes and only wants to move them to other criminals so they can be used to further more crime.

Well the OP hasn't replied to questions. I am curious to the source of the photos and the root story behind them.

This story was originally on 1911forum.com

I can't locate the original thread, but here's what I remember from the story - Upper-end neighborhood, homeowners leave overnight. The BGs were there no more than a couple hours and used the homeowner's tools to break into the safe, also stole both cars out of the garage, probably anything else of value as well.

While being on vacation enjoying to beautiful sky's of Montana some low lifes decided to break in and rob our house. I have learned the hard way, gun safes are no good unless you have a...

Doesn't look like a custom safe. The steel in one of the pics looks like tin.

I don't understand folks that drop 10K+ on firearms and then go cheap on the safe. It makes ZERO sense.

Unfortunately very little will stop a professional thief.

Our aim should always be to make our things as difficult as possible for the casual thief or junkie to obtain.

My belief is that you need to make your stuff more difficult to get than your neighbors, hopefully the thief will leave, not breaking into your home or your safe. If he does buy another safe ASAP because he might come back with the right tools for the job next time.

Another key point here is that the perps used the home owners tools to break the safe. It's a pain but you should always keep your power tools and other heavy duty equipment locked.

I grew up in London and it's common place for homes to get burgled and very little to be take a TV, a laptop etc. The thieves then come back a month later when the insurance has paid out for the new TV and then they clear the place out. It happened to my family when I was a kid. It sucks.

This is why I just had my home alarm system upgraded.
Bolted down safe, wireless dialer in a really hard to get to place, and backed up by battery. This way, I'm limited to a smash and grab loss, and it won't be my firearms. My local PD is great at responding....like less than 5min usually (when my wife or dog accidentally trips the alarm ;P)
