    Remove bolt.
Place the gun on a solid rest.
Look through the barrel at a 50yd bullseye target.
Adjust the gun until you see that the target is centered in the barrel.
Without moving the gun, adjust the crosshairs in the scope to the center of the target.
Move the target out to 100yds and fine adjust after firing to figure out the correction for a perfect zero.

I think the way ar15barrels described is the best: cheap, simple, and close enough for fine adjustments

+1 to Randall, many a gunsmith has done the same thing.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

My only variance to your suggestion is I would take two shots at 50 yards to confirm my zero before moving to 100 yard.

First you need to make sure you have a rifle that you can remove the bolt from without tools. Also make sure your gun has a bolt before trying to remove it.

I use a Bushnell bore sighter. Works like a charm for me. I am usually within about 1" from point of aim at 100 yards.

That is exactly how I rough adjust my scope then fine tune with the up down left right scope adjustment. That procedure puts me within 1 1/2 to 2 inch f the bulls eye. for the initial sighting
I tried the bore scopes both the kind that slide on the front of the barrel and the kind that look like a bullet. the bullet ones are the more accurate ones.
the slide on kind put me within a 12 inch circle. the laser ones within a 1 1/2 to 2 inch

$35 - laser bore sighter. Turn on, chamber (I use the ones that look like a cartridge), adjust sight, remove, shoot.

My experience is you're within an inch in less than two minutes.
