It depends on the shop and the price. I've ended up with some guns at 50% of marked prices before. But, if the price is fair and I can afford it, I'll usually pay the asking price if I really want it.

So, do you guys haggle at the grocery store, hardware store, wal-mart, bloomingdales, etc??

No? Then why the hell at the gun store?
            Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

Only once. I got $100 knocked off an M1 Carbine. That was the first and last time I ever did it.

I hate when people try to haggle with me at my shop, it happens all the time, so I dont do it when Im buying anything anywhere. I figure if its to much money or I cant afford it then I dont need to buy it.

Back in the early 90's when I tried to get a deal on a Glock 22 and Glock 27 that I wanted to buy together, the guy behind the counter looked at me like I just insulted his mother.

This was at Reed's Sporting goods when they were on Alum Rock Ave. in San Jose.

They want to sell you the gun, and you want to buy it. They would rather drop a little money off the top then let you walk out. If you shop around, this is the only way to go. One shop I go to has absurd mark ups on their guns, I tell them i know I could get a much better price, list a source and say I would rather shop local. They will cut me a deal.

To clarify - they were trying to charge me $1000 for a USP + DROS out the door. I told them this price was ludicrous, well because only someone who had not shopped around would buy it for that much. They cut it down to 900 including DROS and gave me 6 free range passes (worth $10 each).

They also tried to sell me a Remington 870 for $500 plus DROS, again I called them out on it and they cut it down to $450 out the door.

If the price is decent I wouldnt try haggling, but if they are on the upper end of the price spectrum it is the only way to go.
I saw a wingmaster with not so matching wood for something like $1100 at a local gunshop. And people expect you not to haggle. $1100 for a not so pristine 870, i think not.
