When is a firearm no longer a firearm?

Curious, when is a firearm no longer considered a firearm when talking about transporting on person or vehicle or within a sterile or prohibited area?

Is the removal of the firing pin, barrel, or other such things make the firearm not a firearm?

Or is it as long as it's a registered firearm, there's no getting around the law?

I'm curious because say on Halloween, if someone were to UOC as part of their costume, what would make the gun "safe" to pass through a school zone and such.

Nope, as long as the serialized number part is there, it's a firearm. You can make it a non-firearm but it takes a cutting torch.

The receiver or the frame(depending on if you have a rifle or pistol) is the firearm. As long as it is intact, then the firearm is intact. The barrel, firing pin, firing control group, stock, sights, bolt, springs, cams, slides etc. are just pieces of metal, plastic and wood as far as the government is concerned, its the receiver that matters. And as far as the receiver is concerned, Fjold is 100% correct, the receiver must be destroyed in order for it to not be a firearm.

A firearm is not a firearm in Ca. It is a Killing machine designed to spray fire into the trenches and.it has a shoulder thing that goes up

Once you run out of ammo, it's no longer a firearm.

Unless it is a percussion or flintlock, It is a firearm. Period. Unless you shoot airsoft.
Even if the gun is made not to fire, It is still a firearm. Only dissabled, Or ballistically challenged.

Not sure here, but any gun manf before 1894 is not a firearm, but only in dealing with the buying and selling.
By law it is a antique.
