Some guns are too much hassle?

I've had single action revolvers on the mind for a little while. Finally made it out to the range with some borrowed Colt SAA's one in .38 the other in .45 Colt. Man I hated loading and unloading those guns, it felt like I was stuck in a slow motion movie scene. After around 75 rounds through both of them any urge to buy a SAA style gun is gone! Along with any urge for a muzzle loader, because if a SAA is that excruciatingly slow to shoot, imagine a muzzle loader!! For me, the nostalgia and history behind the guns aren't worth the hassle.

I don't mind single shot rifles, though.

Singles are fun, I need to get one someday. Its just a mood thing, some days you just feel like takin it slow, other days you want to bumpfire a betamag, having both is having options.

Sometimes I catch myself having more fun at the range plinking with my friend's .22lr bolt action single shot.

Yeah I have those moods too. But the SAA was like driving 55 miles in the fast lane on 280 South going from San Bruno to San Jose, SLOW

Everything has a purpose. I bought a muzzle loader strictly to hunt the muzzle loader Elk season when I lived in Idaho. There was a 5 day general rifle season for Elk (antlered only, special permits for anterless) then. The muzzle loader season was 2 weeks long for antlered and anterless Elk and started a month after general rifle season was over when the snow was on the ground which forced the elk out of the high country.

I haven't shot it in at least 15 years.

Then I hope you kept the receipt for that $300 cowboy hat you just bought.

Gives you a perspective of the old west in gun fights...can you imagine the stress level when your revolver's empty and you have to reload...most guys only carry one gun back then....

Good and bad in every gun, I suppose.

Nah. You just have to learn to use it like this guy.

Single actions are my favorite handguns and I have more of them than anything else. If I want to go all modern and stuff I can switch to one of them newfangled double actions though.

                          I love SAA-style single-actions... esp Ruger Bisleys.

(Note that I didn't just say single-actions, since that includes S&W and similar revolvers with a removed DA sear, and which operate in SA mode only.)

They're beefy as hell, last forever and you can run hot rounds in 'em. They're easy to have good triggers on 'em.

I'd be perfectly happy carrying an SAA-style wheelgun as a CCW/defensive gun.
If I have to reload I'm in the wrong gunfight anyway, and pistols/handguns are just backups for what should be your primary weapon, a rifle/long gun.

Wildeys are a hassle. They can be a real pain in the butt until their gas-adjustable knobs are dialed in.

Single actions seem no more a hassle to me than any other gun, and surely no more hassle than having to crack open an OLL to load.

I used to love shooting my grandfather's SA .22LR. I used to fan the hammer just like the gunfighters did in the movies. I was so young back then. I couldn't have been any older than 15.
