    Range Question

    Hi all,

I just Purchase a Off-list California Legal AR-15 and my question is. What are the procedures in reloading any AR rifle on a in-door and out doors ranges? Should I use a tool to remove the 10 round mag or should I disassemble the rifle and load it from the top.

I am planning on going to ether Burro or Lytle creek.

    Thanks.

Remove the magazine with a tool. Also it's best to leave an empty magazine in the rifle during transport.

If you have a bullet button then just use a tool to pull the magazine out and load it. If its a featureless build you dont have to have a bullet button so you can just use the regular mag release.

        Okay,

So removing the magazine with a tool is fine and when carrying the rifle make sure the magazine is empty correct?

My Doublestar in 5.56 has a bullet button. I've never been aproached about having an open magazine well, I load it normally. My Stag in 6.8 Spc has a Prince 50, I simple pull the rear take-down pin and load it thru the top. It's all about your personal preference.

I believe my Rifle comes with the Prince 50, you think I should load it thru the top or with a tool.

Confusing use of terms. The original "Prince 50" was a regular AR magazine release with a threaded hole for a set screw. Once the magazine was locked it had to stay locked; there was no legal way of dropping the magazine without removing the upper completely. The "Prince 50 Bullet Button" is usually just referred to as a "Bullet Button," and the original "Prince 50" isn't sold anymore.

You can probably find them if you hunt around.

This thread sort of explains it, in a very confusing and ambiguous way. Basically people were buying the Prince 50 and being idiots by removing the set screw and dropping the magazine. The thread title indicates that Prince 50s are illegal, which isn't really true, but it's a lot easier to use a P50 illegally than a BB.
