    Washing Bore Snakes?

Have any of you ever washed dirty Bore Snakes? The ones for my shotguns are looking pretty bad. Was thinking of throwing them in some type of nylon mesh bag and heading to the laundramat.

I use a pickle or mayo jar with some simple green and really hot water. Then shake and soak and shake. Then rinse in the sink until the water is clear.

I do exactly that, except I use my own washing machine. I usually throw in a couple of dirty towels. I place the boresnakes and/or cotton bore mop heads into the mesh bag, and toss it in, hot water cycle. I've never had any residue left behind on the washer drum.

for those of you throwing them in your dish washer and washing machine.

Are you not worried about lead exposure? Im not keen on the chemistry of lead and if it will or will not wash away or leave minute traces that could possibly be toxic.

probably not enough to matter, but still.

I threw mine in the washer when the wife was away. I'm not worried about minute traces of lead. When I was in high school I used to get drenched in leaded gasoline occasionally, so the damage (if any) was already done a long time ago. Hmmmm...maybe that explains a few things.

                              This.

You do not want leftover lead contaminants in your washing machine and/or dish washer.
