I started this thread and I agree. Don't try to hoard public land. People are pigs and they litter everywhere. That is a complete other subject. Maybe you should start an anti-littering thread instead of trying to conceal public information. That runs counter to the libertarian ways that calgun people should be fighting to protect. I certainly do not want anyone leaving trash, but your complaints should be directed at BLM jerk offs who use a few beer cans as an excuse to close land owned by the people. The public pays for these BLM rangers wages and should pay for the 10 minutes of clean up required if god forbid somebody leaves some trash behind. If it is a problem in your area, maybe you should nip it in the bud and call your local BLM office and tell them that you will organize a clean up day or something of that nature before they take the easy way out and close the land.

That's the problem... it's not merely 10 minutes of cleanup.
Check some of the other threads where guys talk about hauling a truckload of garbage out of their favorite BLM spot after only a couple of days.
It's not BLM's job to clean up after the pigs... and yes, Calgunners DO organize cleanup days, such as the one down near Palomar this weekend.
But nobody is paying us to clean up after the pigs either. We can haul out our own garbage and whatever we find while we're there, but we can't be there every day unless we're retired and the area is close to home... and though there's over 12,000 active Calgunners, that is a miniscule percentage of shooters in the state.- Rich

People litter everywhere. It sucks but it's a fact of life. Ask any rancher or farmer. Using this as the excuse to close public land is lame. If your local BLM office does this then you should complain to them about the lame policy. And YES it is the BLM responsibility to clean it up. It's your tax dollars that pay for this stuff. If it's that big of a deal, they can put a dumpster in these heavily used areas for trash. Don't make excuses for anti-gun bureaucrats. That's the problem... it's not merely 10 minutes of cleanup.

Tell ya what.
Call the BLM office and tell that to them.
Let us know how that goes for you.
Whether it's RIGHT or not, it's a government agency and they're going to do whatever they want. They SHOULD answer to us, but they don't, because their bosses don't.- Rich

Regardless of how they (BLM) react, that gives no one an excuse to try to hide public land. It is what it is. We are all tax payers and it's all public. Sorry you don't like it.Comment

I never said that *I* was one of those that doesn't like it or makes an attempt to hide public lands from others.
As for an earlier comment... yes... you and Scott are being QUITE snarky, and though I've only been on the forum for a few weeks, it has been directed at established forum members as well.- Rich

Hey, I have a suggestion: Why not get this thread back on topic and stop with the sniping and arguing.
If the thread is going to remain in the latter mode instead of the former, the thread may as well be locked. Hopefully everyone will return to the former as it seems the OP is trying to do something good and get some info out to the membership.Comment

That's what I (and others) have been saying. The interactive map only shows land under BLM control.
It does not reveal areas where there are restrictions due to county ordinances. Most of the high desert south of Barstow is open to shotgun only. There are also heavy restrictions on centerfire shooting in the western Riverside County area.
The interactive BLM maps only show where it MAY be legal to target shoot.
You need to contact the local BLM office for clarification. Some BLM offices have specifics on their web pages, others, such as the Palm Springs region, do not.
The interactive maps are an excellent resource and I applaud the OP for sharing them, but they are not a 100% indication of where it is legal to shoot. Some "homework" is still needed.- Rich
