    Interactive BLM Maps

Does anyone have a Bureau of Land Management kmz/kml file for Google Earth?

As most of you know, target shooting is legal in California on BLM lands (http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/rec...n/hunting.html). However I would like a clear indication of where these boundaries begin and end.

I know maps are available for purchase from the nearest BLM offices but I would rather use an interactive online map or a Google Earth overlay.

    ******UPDATE 11/3/2009******

    1. Use this link to find BLM areas: http://www.geocommunicator.gov/blmMap/Map.jsp?MAP=LAND
    2. Use this link to read rules about shooting on BLM land: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/rec...n/hunting.html
    3. If you still have questions, use this link to find the phone number or website of your local field office: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/info/dir...addresses.html
    4. Ignore the haters in this thread who don't want to share.

Just because land is BLM doesn't mean you can shoot on it. A lot of BLM land has additional restrictions.

For example, much of San Bernardino County is shotguns only. And there are no firearms allowed on El Mirage dry lake.

Why do a lot of people on this site try to be know-it-alls instead of simply answering the question asked?
You can do the overlay yourself, I'm not aware that there is one. No one here will tell you their favorite tried and true spot, however.

Zoom into your area and uncheck any layers that you do not wish to view like PLSS, National Park service, etc but leave the "Reference", "Base Maps" and "BLM" selections. You are left with a nice clean map of BLM lands in yellow/orange:

Also, here is a link to a list of BLM field offices in California.

You might want to double check with your local branch to confirm your area is not listed as an "ACEC special area" (Area of Critical Environmental Concern ).
very cool. that map shows an area of the cleveland national forest at the Orange/Riverside county border as BLM land....or is it just me?

I thought i would have heard about this before.

This map didnt show city names, but its a large area of the forest.

The darker orange area is BLM Wilderness area. The lighter area is BLM only. Here is a link to the info on "Wilderness areas" http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/wilderness.html

Here is another look at your area.
