Do you mind me asking what your paper on guns is about specifically?

As far as getting you hooked up with shooting, I would like to help personally, but it really isn't possible due to my current situation.

I do wish you best of luck on learning how to shoot, and with your paper. Especially if you are submitting it to a Stanford professor. Unless Stanford isn't as bad as I make it out to be in my mind...

My paper's about what role do guns play in american society today, from urban gang warfare to hunters to survivalists to ... etc. and how the role has evolved and changed from when America was founded. Some of the students here are moderates when it comes to guns, but think of it as more of a Berkeley with less hippies and more suits.

Thanks, and best of luck whatever your situation is.

I'm sure there are members who would go to the range with you.

I can teach you how to shoot. Send me a PM. I've been shooting off and on since I was about nine.

I have a variety of guns that you could try. I could also get my friends out there and you could try even more!!!

I'm also involved in a lot of gun politics, and could give you some background on that type of stuff too.

The main thing when learning how to shoot is SAFETY!!!

Thing is, I'm under 21, and my parents would certainly not give parental consent to go to a range. The two ranges that offer lessons in my area (I live in Palo Alto) seem to require parental consent if under the age of 21. As I'll be alone (I don't dare mention firearms to my liberal friends) I won't be even able to rent a firearm it seems. So my question is, is there any way I can set up a private lesson with a third party to learn to shoot? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure that one of the members here will be more than happy to show you the ropes. If you want to continue your firearms education you can attend an Appleseed shoot (free for you, loaner rifles availible, closest one will probably be in Sacramento) or attend a San Jose Zouaves practice shoot on the 1st Saturday of the month (fee is $65 for everything).
