    AirSoft for training question

I've taken a number of people who have never shot before through some basic training then to the range. To get them used to what firearms feel like in their hands beforehand, I use an old AirSoft gun(modeled after an S&W 9mm) and a Crossman air gun (modeled after the Colt Python). While these are functional for training proper grip and so forth, they suck for basic operational training because they do not function at all like real guns. The semi-auto slide springs to the rear and you have to force it forward and the revolver barrel breaks forward rather than a cylinder swinging out.

As I know next to nothing about modern AirSoft stuff, are there semi-autos and revolvers that operate more similarly to real guns as in slides that can be pulled back under spring tension and swing out cylinders? I've love to be able to show those types of operations without using real firearms if possible.

    Thanks!

Yes there are. They are a bit more expensive. What you are looking for is called "gas blow back". You'll charge the magazine with gas, when you pull the trigger part of the gas is routed to firing the bullet and some more gas is routed to pushing back the slide. As it closes a new round will be picked up. It's operation in that regard is very similiar to a real handgun. The slide can be locked back, some have decocking mechanisms and such.

The revolver I think also operate similiar. They take shells where a BB fits inside. The cylinder opens and you pop in the shells. I believe you fill the gun itself with gas. You can either pull the hammer or just shoot and the cylinder will rotate. When you are out simply push out the cylinder and remove the shells and put more BBs in.

I haven't done airsoft in a long time so I am sure they have made things a lot more realistic. Hell, they have more Magpul lowers than Magpul has made for ARs.

There aren't many revolvers on the market, but the gas blowback pistols (GBB) are almost 1:1 to functions.

Our engineers have a habit of replicating not just the action, but the breakdown and sometimes the odd-quirks that exist in a certain design.

This gun is pretty generic, but it's the only one on the market to replicate decocker and locking block functions of the real counterpart.
