I was out at the range this AM. A photographer from Channel 13 showed up with a couple guys who started pulling the garbage into piles. As it turns out some of the local dirt bikers, responding to the previous Ch13 piece and an article that ran in the Colfax newspaper organized their own clean up. Only they're working not just on the range but on a bunch of areas between the range and the main road where people dump garbage. They have an interest in keeping the gate to the BLM land open too because it gives them access to a lot of trails. They had inlisted the service of a 10-wheel dump truck and a loader from a local grading company. The had also negotiated with Placer Disposal to get rid of the waste for free. The weren't sure if they would be able to get all the way back into the range but they were going to try. So there may or may not be anything left to do on Saturday.
I also got the number of the guy that's the organizer for this group so that we can coordinate future activities between the shooters and the dirt bikers to maximize our effectiveness at keeping BLM happy and access for everyone available.
If someone can get up there between now and saturday it would be nice to know if the services of BLM's disposal guys and the volunteers are still available.
Also, set your tivo for Ch 13 tonight to see what's aired.
