    Ammo Prices now & later.

So with the pending AB962 I am going to start taking notes of local ammo prices if the law goes into effect. I would be interested to know how quickly local vendors up their prices.

I know some companies keep track of gas prices and trends, is there any effort for ammo sales?

My understanding is that Arnold doesn't have to sign this bill. If he doesn't sign it, it automatically goes into effect. He must VETO this bill for it to go in the trash (doubtful). Speaking for Redline Ballistics, we have absolutely no intention of raising our prices. We are not a middle man as we get our product directly from the manufacturer. I spoke to him yesterday and he said that he will not "pile on" just because some PC Calif politicians want to play hard ball. Keep calling Sacramento to voice your objections to this ludicrous piece of legislation.

If AB962 doesn't get vetoed, it'll go into effect Feb, 2011. It'll be interesting to see what the free market will do from now until then.

if it goes through, i think ammo prices will be about same for the rest of this year.

then maybe mid-2010 the prices will start climbing with no drop. then january will have the highest prices (double current prices if not triple) right before Feb 2011. then feb rolls around, and the gougers that hoarded all the ammo will start selling ammo either at same retail price or higher by saying that if you private buy from them you won't need to be fingerprinted.

              Keep calling!!!

There has to be many ways the market will respond to bring ammo to the shooters if this crap piece of legislation passes. How did it pass both houses is beyond me. Where was the NRA? Aren't there any concerns in Sac for the hobbyist, the recreational shooter, the hunter, the outdoorsman?

It's total crap, just absolute crap. If you order ammo online you HAVE JUST CREATED A RECORD OF BUYING AMMO. It's typically the most traceable and documented method of buying ammo. That's the least discreet way to be a bad guy. What a load of crap. Is it about the vast amount of taxes on the purchases that don't get diverted to SAC?? You greedy bastards need more blood?

I tried to come up with a decent IF>THEN chart to describe market reaction to this latest ban but it needs more work before going public.

Arnie, if you are listening, tell us why this ban is going to be effective at reducing gun violence. Tell us why this ban is not overly punitive to law-abiding citizens who also happen to be outdoorsman or recreational shooters. And show some actual proof that ammo ordered from the web was EVER ONCE USED IN A CRIME--JUST ONE INSTANCE!!!

Now that I'm done (for a minute or two) ranting, let me comment on ammo prices. Since I've been alive prices have climbed on everything. I see no reason why that's going to change in the foreseeable future. 10 billion rounds of ammo produced in the USA every year.

The only way ammo is going to stay close to current prices is if 1: The economy continues to tank, so demand is radically reduced since we are all un/under-employed, and 2: Savvy importers take advantage of a weakening dollar and are able to import more foreign-made ammo because the taxes and fees have decreased relatively speaking due to the weakened dollar. My guess is that the US economy stays weak as long as the US government is controlled by agenda-driven anti-capitalists so we will be seeing $1/round min on every caliber except .22lr by the time this crap bill kicks in anyway. It's really sad to have a Buy American philosophy in life but to have to buy bricks of Wolf to afford to go plinking. I'm a Rem/Win/Miwall guy but it's hard to argue with Wolf prices for a weekend of casual plinking.

                  Ha ha haa

Will ACS overly burden ammunition manufacturers and retailers?
Currently, most ammunition manufacturers use bar coding to track ammunition inventories. (Bar coding the packaging and imprinting each and every bullet are 2 totally different things... stupid) By incorporating ACS data in the bar code, manufacturers will easily be able to identify and track ammunition sales. Using simple and inexpensive bar code scanning equipment retailers will not be over burdened recording the necessary tracking information. Estimates reveal that a useful and reliable ammunition tracing system can be economically implemented and maintained.
What are the costs to manufacturers?
Reliable estimates for a complete set of engraving/material handling equipment range from $300,000 to $500,000 each.
Yeah. Like ammo manufacturers are going to sign on for that. Many gun manufacturers don't even put all their gun models through California's drop testing because of the fees. You think ammo companies are going to drop half a million, so they can encode every single bullet? Ha ha haaaaaaa

These tards are out of their minds.

                  Thanks for the laugh UBFRAGD
