    Sonicare (yes gun related)

We hear about using brushes made for gun cleaning, and old toothbrushes too. But has anyone here actually tried using their sonicare toothbrush to clean?

i guess you can, but why? kinda expensive to use for gun cleaning when a basic $1 brush can do the same?

I would only attempt it if I was wearing old clothes and shoes and had a workshop that I didn't mind getting tiny droplets of nasty stuff all over the place.

I've got an old one that I'm planning on trying out when I find the need for it.

Not a smart move. It would spray the cleaning stuff all over the place.

I've thought about this too but if the parts you are cleaning are small enough you can go to Harbor Freight and get a cheap ultrasonic cleaner and use that instead.

I've used electric toothbrushes and waterpiks for years to speed things up. Some solvents will destroy the internals, some won't. Depends on what yours are made of.

I used to use hot Simple Green in the waterpik for cosmoline removal, but it turned out to be a bad idea. Mpro7 works fine, but the mess is horrendous. Drop cloths and the great outdoors are a must.

I'm not too sure about the actual ultrasonic properties of the sonicare, but IIRC micro droplets of contaminated water aren't so good for the lungs.

I've thought of using the sonic care brushes also. They do get pretty filthy and plan to buy new ones anyway. I'm guessing just make sure you're well ventilated and do it in an area you don't mind splashing some chemicals and gun powder. Has anyone tried to use those aerosol cans to clean their guns? I'm wondering if those are safe to use.

I'm very aware of that but, I am trying to come up with a shield system before I go through with it.

I've got one. The brush is going to be for parts which are too big for the little tank.

THat, and no matter how hard you try, you can never get rid of that Hoppe's taste on the brush.

in all honesty if your thinking about using a sonic brush for cleaning , then that means your not using enough solvent or need to try a new brand.

I have one of those old jewelry cleaning machines and I throw my trigger groups in there to clean them. Works ok. still needs some elbow grease though

Have you tried spraying it with brake cleaner? I promise, you won't taste the Hoppe's if you clean your brush with brake cleaner when you're done.
