GRRR More out of State FUD!!!!

Little backstory. I want to buy an item(shotgun) off gunbroker, so yesterday I ask if he'll ship to California, he responds by telling me he has to check with his FFL.

So today I get this email

    Vincent,

I check with a couple of my local FFL folks regarding shipping to Cali.
Evidently there is a special very expensive license for shipping into
California and neither of my FFL's can ship to Cali.

Thanks for checking first, you saved me a bunch of grief. I will make
the change on my post and good luck in your search.

    Thanks,
Ok, I know there is some(I mean a lot) of misinformation out there about California sales, but this drove me nuts, "very expensive license for shipping into California".

    Seriously????

So I responded with this, what do you guys think.

    Hi,

If you don't want to ship to California that is your choice of course, but your FFLs are lying if they are telling you there is an expensive license to ship into California.

The license is called a CFLC and it is completely free and takes about 2 minutes to enroll in the program online. All they have to do is enter the information of the FFL they are shipping to, print out a piece of paper and throw it into the box. It takes about 30 seconds and cost the piece of paper.

If a gun is shipped by an individual no CFLC is needed, it only applies to FFLs.

Here is the link, so you know what the truth is.

Also, as I stated earlier this is a rifle/long gun/shotgun, you can send it yourself through the Post Office, no FFL needed to ship it, as my FFL will receive from an individual.

    If you want call me.

    Vincent (xxx-xxx-xxxx)

If nothing please acknowledge you got this.

    Thanks again
At this point I don't care if he sells me the rifle, I just want him to know what the truth is. I have "converted" other sellers, so who knows.

I thought only FFLs can send firearms through USPS? Private shippers must use UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.

No, an individual can send a long gun through USPS.

IIRC Only FFL holders can ship pistols through USPS, everything else can be sent by an individual.

I just looked it up. My mistake, you're right.

Ha ha... awesome. When the PM says that he doesn't feel comfortable shipping a rifle, you can tell him to STFU

I hope he sells you the gun in appreciation of educating him with the facts. I know I would if I were him. Good Luck

I ran into even better, stronger FUD from an out-of-state individual.

His FFL alledgedly told him that not only did he (the FFL) need a special license to ship to California, he needed to pay $50.00 per firearm to the state (CA.) for "transfer" that I would be responsible for.

I told the seller to check out the BOF website for himself, and told him that I had no objection to paying the $50.00 (I wanted the piece and the price was right) but there was absolutely no "transfer" fee charged by the State of California for out-of-state sellers.

The seller got back to me and informed me that his FFL now wouldn't ship to California, and he didn't want to sell to California either.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

This is exactly the kind of FUD that the NRA needs to clear up for out of state folks. I would love for the NRA to set this up.

This can be a letter from the NRA-ILA & be attached on the NRA website & also emailed out to ALL its members.
