    Is CalExpo a sterile enviroment?

Went to the State Fair at CalExpo earlier this month. Cops everywhere. No one checked my wife's purse to enter the fairgrounds where there were thousands of people. Today going to CalExpo the 6 cops at the entrance to the gun show searched my wife's purse. Is CalExpo a sterile environment.

"sterile" as in no firearms allowed? Could have to do with the guy who shot a gun off at a gunshow and hit a lady in the neck here very recently. possibly leo's stepping up the security aspects of the local gunshow?

I walked in saturday afternoon with a plastic bag that had two empty gun cases, there were at least 3 LEO in front of the entrance that never said a thing to me.

I've been on multiple shooting calls at CalExpo during the fair or other events. No one was checking. It was Hit or Miss at the door Sunday, some were getting checked some were not. It was odd to say the least. I walked right in without a second glance but the stopped a 15 year old girl.

That's funny. They're trying to ensure you don't bring guns and ammo to a gun show, or what?

No they're they're to ensure all guns coming in are unloaded. They don't run serials, or inspect them beyond the point of ensure they're unloaded, unless its bad *** and they want to play with it for a second. Considering how unsafe people are and how many time I got muzzled by people handling guns for sale I'm glad they do it.

Yeah, the Cal Expo Police were seemed like a great bunch of guys. I think most or all were retired LE from other agencies and had all that p**s and vineger out of thier system already. They were all relaxed and comfortable looking in polo's and shorts....Plus, I saw them checking out the black rifle goodies as customers several times...cant fault folks for liking the same stuff we do!

I've never been searched going into the Cal Expo gun show but I've been searched going out. Last year someone sticky fingered a handgun off one of the table so they searched all the bags as people were leaving.

I didn't get searched at all on Saturday.

Got to love someone named bombmaster being concerned about being searched by LE.

I was just wondering Why. Are gun owners only seen as dishonest lairs? We were asked if we had any guns. After we all said no. One Leo asks to search my wife's purse. She complies. My question is Why do we allow this. Do we have to allow this? Its a gun show. Ask me if I have any pirated dvd's or fake handbags. Or better yet just ask if there is any reason to arrest me.

It's hit and miss (No pun intended). Keep in mind the quality of LEO that is working there. If they are a legit COP they aren't probably too happy to pull the Cal Expo shift, hence the apathy. I would bet most of the security at that place are "rent a cops" or retired, so you get what you pay for.

I bought a gun at Reno and walked right out the door past security and no one even asked me to show any tags or anything.Once I stashed the gun in my truck I came back in and realized I left my pass at the table. They would not even let me go to the table with an escort to get the pass,I had to use my cell phone to call a buddy to run my pass out. Talk about inconsistency

It's because people lie. Gun owners or anyone else. The problem is when you lie about a fake purse or dvd's you are not putting anyone in the line of fire as with a possibly loaded gun. I recall a show at San Mateo (anyone remember those shows) when the beef jerkey guy was rummaging around in his duffle bag and "BOOM", his .380 went off, the bullet skipped off the table across the isle from him before lodging in the power panel room door. You ever see the big glass jar pretty much full of live rounds at almost any show's checking table? Those are all from "unloaded" guns. That's why they check purses.

I bought a Browning A5 from a guy walking around at the Cow Palace that someone had "unloaded" strapped and checked. When I got it home I noticed that someone flipped the magazine cutoff so there were still two high brass #6 shells in the magazine. (An added bonus)

Bottom line is they either don't check enough or as thoroughly as they should. It should be a far more strict rule at any show in my opinion. Check any and all bags, period. People should be more tolerant of these searches. What we don't need is another discharge at a show where the anti's feast on any negative press they can get, let alone some poor schlub getting hit while he is buying his wife some jewelry or bed sheets.

I also went to Waterworld waterpark a few weeks ago and they did everything but a body cavity search and even tried to confiscate sandwiches and chips ,so it ain't just gun owners it's more of a sign of the times.
