    Ammo question

Quick question for you guys. I have a buudy who said at work when selling ammo, a cop said that there is a federal law that says you can't own any more than 1,000 rnds of any one caliber of ammo.

Is this FUD or is there truth to this?

    FUD.

Cabellas sells bricks of 2500 rounds of .22lr.
Starve the beast, move to a free state.

Bwiese: "You are making the assumption the law is reasonable/has rationale."

There are rules about amount of black powder storage but that is it for the average Californian. Theoretically in an unanticpated event like your house burning down if someone is injured by your ammunition, I could see in todays overzealous law enforcement and over litigious society that someone could attack you on grounds of not storing it safely and as proof offer someone actually getting hurt.

As for ammo, just not yet for laws specifically regulating such that I know of. There have been hearings and attempts to formulate legistlation aimed at ammunition ownership at just about every level of government but I do not know of any that has gained traction regulating total amount you can own.

Could be prophetic though as the gun grabbing psycho's now are faced with the recent supreme court ruling will attack ammunition ownerhsip since they will cite that ammunition is not mentioned in the constitution, just arms, so this has been their tactic the last several years.

After all what good is a firearm without ammunition. plus we told those left wing nuts that guns don't kill people, bullets do. So we gave them the strategy and tactics to use against us.

It might easily be true that a cop said that, but ther certainly is no federal law governing ammo purchases at the 1000 round level.

Buying enough for a small country's army and exporting it would be controlled.

Thanks guys, I thought it was FUD but I figured it best to make sure before making an assumption.

The persistence of this FUD is astonishing. I had a Sergeant in the local PD repeat it to me at a social event in my residence a while back. Do they teach it in Academies or what?

Where IS this coming from?? No disrespect to anyone especially LEO's but maybe Devildog or RP could ask where these individuals are getting this info from... I would hate to encounter an issue because I happen to have ordered 1500 rounds of ammo for a few of my buddies & myself which I occasionally do! Thanx!

"They" is where all reliable info comes from. "They say you can't have more than a thousand rounds of ammo", there, it is now in stone.

I only wish people would challenge the source of the info more, it would eventually stop all the trolls from regurgitating crap info. Most times when I ask "where did you get that information from" they either get insulted and frustrated or the clam up.

I know a few cops and fed agents who privately stockpile more than 5k rounds of ammo for each caliber they own. And this is personal stock not job related.

That is the exact problem, my buddy was sure the guy was right because he is a cop, so he must know what he is talking about.

Not true. I wish I had 1000 rounds of any caliber. I've been without .45 for about 5 months now. The only thing I have a lot of is 7.62x54r (mainly because it was so cheap to begin with).
