    Spotting scope

Can anyone recommend a good spotting scope for 100 yards that won't break the bank? Big5 has something for 90 bucks on a 50% off sale, but Big5 sales are jokes to begin with. They have WWB 9mm on "sale" for 16 dollars, down from 30

Maybe something that will do 200 as well would be good, I might one day go to a 200 yard range.

I bought a cheapie Bushnell for about $100.00 a few years ago. It works well at 100 yds. I have to use Shoot N See targets to see the holes at 200 yds. with it. Although my knowledge is limited when it comes to spotters, I think most spotters in the $100.00 range will do you well for 100 yard use. It seems the price jumps drastically on scopes that spot well past that range..

If I had to do it all over again I would have ponied up for a high dollar spotter.

I hope someone else chimes in here, as I am curious to know at what range a good spotter will work effectively, and what the cost is.

Dont buy it. Its not worth $20.00. I bought a cheapy winchester spotter from them "on sale". It was on sale for $90.00, down from $250.00. As soon as i got home i found it all over the internet for $89.00.

Regardless, looking through that thing was like trying to look through a beer bottle. I think the lenses were made of smoked glass.

I've been pretty impressed by the 80 and 100mm Konus scopes. You get quite a lot for the price.

I am also curious about what people are using for 300 yards and more.

Don't expect to see bullet holes in paper at 300 yards. Even with a high dollar scope, you need the most ideal conditions. It's bad enough to try and see 22cal bullet holes in the white on paper at 200 yards with a Kowa 821.

I don't know of anyone who actually tries to see bullet holes at 300 yards or beyond. In NRA High Power, you don't look at bullet holes during the 300 yard rapid string; you look at mirage. And when they mark your shot, you get a spotting disk to help spot the shot along with the scoring disk.

Anotherted +1 on the winchester spotter.
I have one of the Pieces of $99.00 junk also.
I could of bought a cheap .22 scope that would of worked better.

I'm gonna get a big Burris 80mm. I can get it for like $160 so it won't hurt too much if it's not that great.

This one has been recommended by several people, on this forum and others:

The guy claims it compares (mostly) favorably to a $900 Konus 821 model, and that you can see .223 holes at 200 yards and sometimes even 300 if conditions are good. The cool thing is he'll refund $100 of your $225 purchase price if you EVER decide you want a better scope and return this one to him (which he'll donate to a Jr. shooting club or something... ).

                      Includes case, tripod, etc.

I'm probably going to get this one. At the very worst I'll be out $125. And until I start shooting service rifle or high power matches it should suit my needs just fine.
