    USI in Bay Point

Although I bought my first firearms nearly 20 years ago, family pressures and the hectic work schedule of my business left me with little time to develop my shooting interests. The economic downturn has really cut back on my business so I now have some involuntary free time on my hands at last.

Does any one have feedback they would like to share regarding the relative merits of the 4 clubs that operate the USI range in Bay Point?

It is the nearest range to my home and although I have lived in the area for nearly 25 years I do not know any other gun owners locally (I obviously move in the wrong circles...), I would like to join one of these clubs to meet some like-minded individuals who would be willing to share their interest and knowledge with me.

I see that there are a bunch of members here who seem to be located relatively close to me so I was hoping that some of you might have some input.

    Thanks,

Send BruceFlinch an email. He filled me in on the clubs at USI. -g

I belong to the Diablo Rod & Gun Club. Being a member I get a discount when shooting at the 100yd range. The range masters are professional and friendly.

The RangeMasters have always been polite to me and my friends the couple times I've been there. Even though we're young and could have easily been written off as "Hooligans" or other such old timer(not that I'm calling them old) jargon. They answered our questions and requests for suggestions and help on jamming and other issues politely as well. They've even let us slide on the purple(safety) card the couple times. We all work retail, so we can't get the time off to go get the purple cards. They just filled us in on the procedures and let us have fun.

I really like the range as a whole. Now if they'd just start renting guns they'd be number one in my book.

Also a member of Diablo Rod and Gun and would recommend it to you as well. I've only been a member for 3 months or so, but can probably answer any questions you may have. Just post them up here.
As a non member you can shoot at the public rifle, pistol, trap and skeet ranges for $14.
As a member you can shoot at all of those ranges as well, and have the additional option of shooting at the multi purpose range which offers a 200 yard line. Rifle, pistol and multipurpose ranges will run you only $7 as a member and there are discounts for trap and skeet as well. Discounts on ammunition you purchase as a member from them also.

The club has many organized shoots every month which you can see by looking on the event calendar at the link above. In addition to the organized shoots they have monthly fishing trips into the bay/ocean on a charter boat for only $60...food, drink, bait and tackle all provided. If you are a hunter or fisher they have lots of different yearly awards (jackets) for things such as deer, trout, ummm...I forget the rest...but trust me, lots of awards to be won there!

If you're just hungry you could just come out for the monthly socials at which they provide all of the food and drink/alcohol you can eat/drink for free to members. You could pay for your membership with that alone!

There's more but I'm tired of typing. If you're interested in joining come to a member meeting the first Thursday of any month and bring $50 for the first year ($25 renewals years after) and if you are a NRA member bring your card for a $5 discount on your membership.

Diablo is the largest with something like 1400 + members.
the rest of the clubs are smaller

I shoot every few weeks or so, from Bolt actions, pistol AK,and ARs

Many thanks for all the info guys! You have all - as expected - been very helpful. I also received a PM from a Calguns (and USI) member and I have accepted an invitation to meet up with him at the pistol range this afternoon.
